- Z 12 Erich Giese war ein Zerstörer der Klasse Zerstörer 1934 A der deutschen Kriegsmarine im Zweiten Weltkrieg. Er wurde am 3. Mai 1935 bei der Germaniawerft in Kiel auf Kiel gelegt und lief am 12. März 1936 vom Stapel. Die Indienststellung erfolgte nach Testfahrten am 4. März 1939. Er sank am 13. April 1940 beim Unternehmen Weserübung in Narvik, Norwegen.Das Boot war benannt nach Kapitänleutnant Erich Giese, der am 5. oder 6. Juni 1917 im Ersten Weltkrieg an Bord seines Torpedoboots S 20 vor der Scheldemündung fiel. Der Zerstörer Z 12 Erich Giese gehörte bis zu seiner Versenkung zur 4. Zerstörerflottille. (de)

At the beginning of World War II, the ship was used in the German Bight to lay minefields in German waters. In late 1939 the ship made one successful minelaying sortie off the English coast that claimed two merchant ships. While returning from that sortie, she torpedoed a British destroyer without being detected and continued on her way. During the early stages of the Norwegian Campaign, Erich Giese fought in both naval Battles of Narvik in mid-April 1940 and was sunk by British destroyers during the Second Battle of Narvik. (en)

После этого до февраля 1940 проходил ремонт. В апреле участвовал в операции «Везеребюнг», входя в состав Нарвикской группы. 10 апреля 1940 участвовал в первом бою у Нарвика. 13 апреля участвовал во втором бою у Нарвика, потоплен артиллерией британских линкора «Warspite» и эсминца «Bedouin» в Уфут-фьорде.
