Das Festival fokussierte sich auf das Thriller, Krimi- und Polizeifilmgenre und hatte ab 1993 auch die Kategorien Kurz- und Fernsehfilm mitaufgenommen.2007 zog sich das Weinsyndikat Bureau National Interprofessionel du Cognac als Finanzier des Festivals zurück. Damit endete die Geschichte des Festivals. Die Stadt Beaune rief 2009 das Festival International du Film Policier de Beaune ins Leben. 1988 und 2006 konnten die deutschsprachigen Filme Die Katze und Silentium gewinnen. (de)

The festival focused on the police/crime genre and also featured a short and a television film competition after 1993.Capitalizing on the notoriety of the film festival, an unrelated crime book convention named Polar : Le Festival was inaugurated in 1996. In 2007, the wine syndicate Bureau National Interprofessionel du Cognac announced that it was withdrawing its support of the 25-year-old film event.Without its main backer, the festival's days in Cognac came to an end.However another famed wine city, Beaune, Côte d'Or, saw value in the format and launched a successor in 2009, the Festival international du Film policier de Beaune.Since 2010, the Cognac-based Polar : Le Festival – originally a strictly literary event – has incorporated a film competition, albeit on a much smaller scale, to compensate for the loss of the original film festival to Beaune. - Le festival du film policier de Cognac est un ancien festival cinématographique créé par Lionel Chouchan, mais aussi littéraire malgré son nom, dont la première édition a eu lieu en 1982. Rendez-vous de tous les amateurs de polar pendant vingt-six ans et au cours de vingt-cinq éditions (pas de festival en 1991 pour cause de guerre du Golfe), le festival est longtemps associé à de grands noms du cinéma, tels Claude Chabrol et Terence Young. Il a également permis d'assister aux débuts de réalisateurs aujourd'hui reconnus tels Xavier Gens (pour son court-métrage Au petit matin en 2006) et Joe Carnahan (pour Narc en 2002 et Mi$e à prix en 2007). La 25e et dernière édition a lieu en juin 2007. La fin de l'organisation du festival est annoncée en décembre de la même année. Le 26 juin 2008, la ville de Beaune (Côte-d'Or) annonce la reprise du festival, appelé désormais festival international du film policier de Beaune et dont la première édition se tient en avril 2009. - Het Festival du Film Policier de Cognac (te vertalen als “politiefilmfestival van Cognac”) was een Frans filmfestival, dat van 1982 tot 2007 jaarlijks werd gehouden. In 1991 werd het festival niet ingericht. Het festival vindt plaats in Cognac. Zoals de naam al aangeeft, was het festival speciaal bedoeld voor politie/misdaadfilms. Aanvankelijk betrof dit alleen bioscoopfilms, maar sinds 1993 was het festival ook open voor korte films en televisiefilms. In 2007 hield het filmfestival op met bestaan. Op het festival werden meerdere prijzen uitgereikt, waaronder een publieksprijs en de Grand Prix. In 2008 werd aangekondigd dat de vijfentwintigste editie van 2007 de laatste was, maar dat een nieuw Festival du film policier de Beaune vanaf 2009 zou ingericht worden in Beaune. Dit festival ging een eerste maal door in april 2009 en staat sindsdien jaarlijks geprogrammeerd. (nl)
