- The Eurovision Young Musicians 1988 was the fourth edition of the Eurovision Young Musicians, held at Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Netherlands on 31 May 1988. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS), musicians from six countries participated in the televised final. A total of sixteen countries took part in the competition. All participants had to be younger than 19 and performed a classical piece of their choice accompanied by the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest conducted by Sergiu Comissiona. Cyprus and Spain made their début, and Israel withdrew from the 1988 contest. The non-qualified countries were Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Yugoslavia. For the second year in a row, the host country did not qualify for the final. The semifinal took place between 26 and 27 May, a few days before the televised final. Julian Rachlin of Austria won the contest, with Norway and Italy placing second and third respectively. (en)

- La IV edición del Festival de Eurovisión de Jóvenes Músicos se celebró en el Concertgebouw de Ámsterdam (Países Bajos) el 31 de mayo de 1988. 16 países estaban interesados en participar en la cuarta edición de la competición, entre ellos Países Bajos (país anfitrión), pero solo 6 consiguieron ser seleccionados por un grupo de expertos para participar en la final televisada de esta edición del certamen. Por eso, Países Bajos no participó aunque fuera la sede de este año debido a que no se clasificó para la final. El ganador de esta edición fue Julian Rachlin de Austria que consiguió conquistar al jurado tocando el Violín. (es)

Des jeunes musiciens de 6 pays participèrent à la finale télévisée de cette édition. L'Autriche remporte son premier titre avec un concerto pour violon joué par Julian Rachlin, composé par le violoniste polonais du XIXe siècle, Henryk Wieniawski. Финал конкурса состоялся 31 мая 1988 года в концертом зале «Консертгебау» в Амстердаме. Победу на конкурсе одержал участник из Австрии Юлиан Рахлин, играющая на скрипке. Музыканты из Норвегии и Италии заняли второе и третье место соответственно. Примечательно, что финал конкурса посетила королева Нидерландов Беатрикс Вильгельмина Армгард. Организаторами конкурса выступили Голландская вещательная ассоциация и Европейский вещательный союз. В конкурсе приняли участие молодые музыканты в возрасте до 20 лет из 16 стран Европы.
