- El Campionat d'Europa d'escacs juvenil fou un torneig d'escacs celebrat anualment per determinar el millor jugador continental d'edat inferior als 20 anys La competició fou organitzada per la FIDE entre 1971-72 i 2002. Anteriorment, es jugava el torneig Niemeyer, amb seu a Groningen, entre 1962-63 i 1970/71, el qual era considerat, tot i que no oficialment, un campionat europeu sub-20. També es va celebrar el torneig en categoria femenina, a partir de 1977-78. (ca)
- The first chess youth championship in Europe was the yearly European Junior Championship for under age 20. It was played from 1971–2002. FIDE officially introduced the European Junior Championship in 1970 at their Annual Congress and so the 1971/72 edition was the first official European Junior Championship. Effectively, they adopted the 'Niemeyer Tournament', held every year in Groningen since 1962, and re-packaged it. For completeness also the winners of this Niemeyer tournament are listed. La competición fue organizada por la FIDE entre 1971-72 y 2002. Con anterioridad se jugaba el llamado Torneo Niemeyer, con sede en Groningen, entre 1962-63 y 1970/71, que era considerado, aunque no oficialmente,un campeonato europeo sub-20. - Le championnat d'Europe d'échecs junior est une compétition d'échecs organisée de 1971 à 2002 où s'affrontaient les meilleurs joueurs européens qui avaient moins de 20 ans au 1er janvier de l'année en cours. La compétition eut lieu à partir de 1971 sous les auspices de la Fédération internationale des échecs mais elle fut précédée par une compétition similaire, le tournoi Niemeyer disputé à Groningue aux Pays-Bas de janvier 1963 à 1969-1970. Les gagnants de cette compétition antérieure sont inclus dans le palmarès. Depuis 2003, l'épreuve est remplacée par le championnat d'Europe d'échecs de la jeunesse, des prix sont offerts pour les catégories moins de 10, 12, 14, 16 et 18 ans et de même côté féminin. (fr)

- Het Europees schaakkampioenschap voor junioren tot 20 jaar werd gehouden in de jaren 1971 tot 2002. FIDE introduceerde dit kampioenschap officieel op hun jaarvergadering van 1970, waarmee de editie 1971/72 de eerste officiële versie was van dit toernooi. Feitelijk werd door FIDE het sinds 1962 jaarlijks in Groningen gehouden 'Niemeyer toernooi' ingelijfd. - Mistrzostwa Europy juniorów do lat 20 w szachach – rozgrywki szachowe mające na celu wyłonienie najlepszych juniorów Europy w kategorii wiekowej do 20 lat. Pierwsze oficjalne mistrzostwa Europy juniorów odbyły się na przełomie lat 1971 i 1972. Do edycji 1967/68 rozgrywki nosiły nazwę Pucharu Niemeyera (od nazwy sponsora – zakładów Niemeyera), a do 1970/71 Pucharu Europy juniorów. Zwycięzcy tych turniejów otrzymywali nieoficjalny tytuł mistrza Europy juniorów. Dopiero kongres FIDE w Vancouver w 1971 oficjalnie zatwierdził zawody w Groningen jako mistrzostwa Europy juniorów do lat 20. Pierwsze cztery edycje rozgrywano systemem kołowym, do edycji 1975/76 systemem eliminacji i finałów, a pozostałe systemem szwajcarskim. Do 1991 mistrzostwa odbywały się na przełomie lat w holenderskich miastach Groningen i Arnhem. Od 1992 zmianie uległ terminy oraz organizatorzy zawodów. Turnieje juniorek zapoczątkowane zostały w 1977. Do 1979 nosiły one nazwę Pucharu Europy; oficjalne mistrzostwa rozgrywane były od 1980. W przeciwieństwie do turniejów mężczyzn, odbywały się one w różnych miastach, również z kilkuletnimi przerwami. Dopiero od 1992 stały się turniejami cyklicznymi, a od 1997 były organizowane wspólnie z turniejami juniorów w tych samych miastach i terminach. Ostatnie mistrzostwa Europy juniorów do lat 20 rozegrane zostały w 2002 w Baku. (pl)
