- "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" (Norwegian: Østenfor sol og vestenfor måne) is a Norwegian fairy tale. It was included by Andrew Lang in The Blue Fairy Book (1890). "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" was collected by Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe. It is Aarne–Thompson type 425A, the search for the lost husband; other tales of this type include "Black Bull of Norroway", "The Brown Bear of Norway", "The Daughter of the Skies", "The Enchanted Pig", "The Tale of the Hoodie", "Master Semolina", "The Sprig of Rosemary", "The Enchanted Snake", and "White-Bear-King-Valemon". The Swedish version is called "Prince Hat under the Ground". It was likely an offspring from the tale of "Cupid and Psyche" in The Golden Ass, which gave rise to similar animal bridegroom cycles such as "Beauty and the Beast". (en)
- À l'est du soleil et à l'ouest de la lune (en norvégien : Østenfor sol og vestenfor måne, en anglais : East of the Sun and West of the Moon) est un conte populaire norvégien, recensé par Peter Christen Asbjørnsen (1812-1885) et Jørgen Moe, et qui a d'abord été publié à Christiania (Oslo) en 1841 dans leur recueil Norske Folkeeventyr (Contes populaires norvégiens). Traduit en anglais par Sir George Dasent, il a été repris en 1849 dans un recueil intitulé Fairy Tales of all Nations et a acquis une grande popularité dans la culture anglo-américaine. C'est l'un des rares contes norvégiens ayant atteint une audience internationale. Le conte reprend des éléments de l'histoire de L'Amour et Psyché dans les Métamorphoses d'Apulée (IIe siècle ap. - Austanfyre sol og vestanfyre måne (Nederlands: "Ten oosten van de zon, ten westen van de maan") is de eerste opera van de Noorse componist Gerhard Schjelderup. De opera is gebaseerd op het gelijknamige libretto van in een bewerking van Jonas Lie. Ten tijde dat Schjelderup werkte aan de opera was hij nog in opleiding aan diverse instellingen in Duitsland. De eerste van deze opera is onder de titel Jenseits Sonne und Mond te zien geweest in München. Er is voorts nog een opvoering bekend op 5 mei 1920 van het onder leiding van in Berlijn, maar het is onbekend of dat een herhaling was van alleen de eerste akte of van het totale werk. Het manuscript van het werk is in handen van de Noorse Staatsbibliotheek. (nl)
