- Downtown is the central business district of Seattle, Washington. It is fairly compact compared with other city centers on the U.S. West Coast due to its geographical situation, being hemmed in on the north and east by hills, on the west by Elliott Bay, and on the south by reclaimed land that was once tidal flats. It is bounded on the north by Denny Way, beyond which are Lower Queen Anne (sometimes known as "Uptown"), Seattle Center, and South Lake Union; on the east by Interstate 5, beyond which is Capitol Hill to the northeast and Central District to the east; on the south by S Dearborn Street, beyond which is Sodo; and on the west by Elliott Bay, a part of Puget Sound. Le quartier est frontalier du quartier de au Nord, de Capitol Hill et de First Hill à l'Est, de l'International District et d'une partie de Pioneer Square au Sud, et à l'Ouest par les bords de l'Elliot Bay et . Les quartiers de Belltown, de et le reste de Pioneer Square sont en fait des sous-divisions de Downtown. Au sein du centre-ville se trouve le , appartenant à l'University of Washington, zone au sein de laquelle se trouvait le campus avant 1895. Downtown est le principal quartier d'affaires, une zone de shopping (entourant et reliée au Seattle Center au moyen d'un monorail), et abrite sur ses côtes le marché de Pike Place.

È abbastanza piccolo confrontato con gli altri centri cittadini della West coast degli Stati Uniti a causa della sua situazione geografica: chiusa a nord ed a est da colline, sul lato ovest dalla baia , e verso sud da terreni bonificati dove un tempo arrivava l'alta marea. È delimitata a Nord dalla Denny Way, oltre la quale sono presenti Lower Queen Anne (a volte chiamata Uptown), il , e South Lake Union; verso Est è delimitato dall'Interstate 5, oltre la quale sono presenti Capitol Hill e First Hill; verso Sud troviamo la Yesler Way, oltre la quale ci sono il Distretto Internazionale e parte della Pioneer Square; ed infine verso Ovest dal Lungomare Centrale e dalla Baia di Elliott. Nelle vicinanze del centro di quest'area troviamo il , di proprietà dell'Università di Washington, era infatti il luogo dove si trovava il campus prima del 1895. Downtown è il principale quartiere finanziario, il principale lungomare e la principale area commerciale ed è connesso al Seattle Center attraverso la . Downtown si trova anche il famoso mercato . Il Columbia Center, posizionato all'interno del Downtown è l'edificio con più piani, settantasei, ad Ovest del fiume Mississippi, anche se sono presenti edifici più alti in Texas ed in California. La Smith Tower, situata vicino al lungomare, per lungo tempo è stato l'edificio più alto ad Ovest del fiume. Altri edifici degni di nota sono la , , , la nuova Biblioteca centrale di Seattle progettata da Rem Koolhaas, e l'edificio principale del , costruito nel 1991 allargato nel 2007, la cui facciata è stata progettata da Robert Venturi. A Downtown Seattle sono presenti alcuni parchi, tra questi ricordiamo Westlake Park, Freeway Park, e Victor Steinbrueck Park.
