- Kanibalský film je podžánr filmového hororu, typický pro italskou filmovou produkci sedmdesátých a osmdesátých let. Pro žánr jsou typické neobyčejně brutální filmy, založené na střetu zástupců moderní civilizace s kanibalskými kmeny v Asii a Jižní Americe. Autoři žánru užívají celou řadu prvků explicitního násilí, snaží se o šokující účinek. Filmy typicky obsahují dlouhé scény mučení, znásilňování, zabíjení lidí i zvířat a pojídání lidského masa, využívají exotické lokace. Žánr úzce souvisí s tzv. filmy, vysoce brutálními pseudodokumenty, s nimiž později splynul. Většina kanibalských filmů vznikla v období, nazývaném cannibal boom, které je vymezen přibližně léty 1977–1981. Za první kanibalský film je pokládán Vymítač kanibalů (Il paese del sesso selvaggio, 1972) režiséra , patrně nejslavnějším je Cannibal Holocaust režiséra Ruggera Deodata (1980). K dalším známým dílům patří Cannibal Ferox a Mangiata Vivi Umberta Lenziho, La Montagna del Dio Cannibale či Natura contro . K nejvýznamnějším režisérům patří krom již zmíněných Ruggera Deodata a Umberta Lenzho také (Mondo cannibale) a (Emanuelle e gli ultimi cannibali). Většina filmů tohoto žánru je velmi kontroverzní kvůli týrání zvířat, častým pornografickým scénám a především obrovské brutalitě. (cs)
- Cannibal films, alternatively known as the cannibal genre or the cannibal boom, are a subgenre of horror films made predominantly by Italian filmmakers during the 1970s and 1980s. This subgenre is a collection of graphically violent movies that usually depict cannibalism by primitive, Stone Age natives deep within the Asian or South American rainforests. While cannibalism is the uniting feature of these films, the general emphasis focuses on various forms of shocking, realistic and graphic violence, typically including torture, rape and genuine cruelty to animals. - Der Kannibalenfilm ist ein Filmgenre aus dem Bereich des Exploitation- und Splatterfilms, mit Einflüssen des Horror-, Abenteuer- und teilweise Sexfilms. Die vorwiegend von italienischen Filmemachern in den späten 1970er und frühen 1980er Jahren produzierten Filme erlebten in dieser Periode auch ihren Höhepunkt. Filme dieser Richtung handeln meist von urzeitlichen Naturvölkern aus südamerikanischen und asiatischen Gebieten, welche mit der Zivilisation in Berührung kommen. Oftmals wird versucht, die Vorstellung von scheinbar zivilisierten und scheinbar unzivilisierten Kulturen zu hinterfragen, was durch die unnoblen Motive und Handlungen der vermeintlich zivilisierten Eindringlinge verdeutlicht wird, welche die Sozialstruktur der ansässigen Gesellschaften oftmals – aber nicht immer – mutwillig und aus Eigennutz stören. Im Kontext des Versuchs der Aufhebung von vermeintlich zivilisierten und unzivilisierten Kulturen lassen sich Verbindungen zum Mondogenre im Stile von Gualtiero Jacopetti und Franco Prosperi ziehen. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt vieler Filme des Genres liegt bei der (vermeintlich) anthropologischen Darstellung urzeitlicher Gesellschaftsverbände und den unterschiedlichen Formen und Beweggründen für kannibalistische Handlungen. Ebenso finden sich innerhalb des Genres jedoch auch unzählige Filme, welche auf jene sozialkritischen Ansätze verzichten. Wegen der oftmaligen Nutzung von realen Tiertötungen stand das Genre teilweise unter Kritik. Im weiteren Sinne werden auch oftmals Filme, in denen Kannibalismus eine zentrale Rolle spielt, als Kannibalenfilme bezeichnet (so zum Beispiel Cannibal!
