- The Mitragliatrice Breda calibro 8 modello 37 (commonly known as the Breda mod. 37 or simply Breda 37) was an Italian Medium machine gun produced by Breda and adopted in 1937 by the Royal Italian Army. It was the standard heavy machine gun for the Royal Italian Army during World War II, and continued to be used by the Italian Army after the conflict. The Breda 37 was meant as company/battalion support as compared to the more troublesome Breda 30 meant for squad/platoon support and proved far more effective in combat. Though some sources say that the gun possesses some of the same problematic features of the Breda 30.(mainly the need for an oil reservoir to lubricate the cartridges before chambering), the reality is that the Breda 37 was a simple (only four moving parts) and reliable gun that don't need lubrication and has nothing to do with the previous series (that was mistakenly called the Breda 30 series: in reality, the Breda 30 automatic rifle/light machinegun is part of the Breda 24 series). Instead, the Breda 37 is part of the Breda 31 series of automatic weapons, the series started with the Breda 31 (a licensed built copy of the Hotchkiss 1929): the weapons of this series were amongst the most re-employed by the allies and this weapon continue to serve well after WW2, only being replaced in Portuguese service by the FN MAG in 1960.The weapon was also adopted for use by the Regia Marina in small numbers aboard minor warships. - Breda 37 (pełna nazwa Mitragliatrice Breda modello 37) – ciężki karabin maszynowy zaprojektowany w 1937 w zakładach Breda i używany w czasie II światowej przez wojska włoskie. Karabin ten działał na zasadzie bardzo zbliżonej do innego karabinu firmy Breda – Breda 30, jednak w odróżnieniu od tamtego modelu, zrezygnowano z wbudowanej do broni olejarki, co znaczyło, że przed użyciem naboje musiały być ręcznie pokryte olejem, co powodowało podobne problemy z zanieczyszczeniem broni. Dość unikatowy był system ładowania tej broni częściowo zapożyczony z karabinów maszynowych typu Hotchkiss. Sztywna, metalowa taśma z 20 nabojami wkładana była z lewego boku karabinu, w miarę wystrzeliwania naboi przesuwała się w prawo i w końcu wypadała z karabinu. W odróżnieniu od Hotchkissa, łuski nie były wyrzucane na zewnątrz po wystrzeleniu, ale były one z powrotem wkładane do ładownika. Takie rozwiązanie może świadczyć o tym, że Breda 37 była projektowana jako broń pokładowa. W broni stosowanej jako ckm konieczność usuwania łusek przed ponownym ładowaniem taśmy była dużą wadą. (pl)
- A Breda Modello 37 (M37) foi uma metralhadora de projecto italiano, adoptada em 1937. Foi a metralhadora pesada padrão do Exército Italiano durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial. A M37 foi projectada como substituta da problemática Breda M37, provando-se muito mais eficiente em combate. Apesar disso revelou alguns problemas da sua predecessora. Uma das suas restrições era o facto de ser alimentada por carregadores de 20 munições e não por fita, o que, para permitir um fogo rápido, obrigava que a sua guarnição tivesse dois membros, além do apontador um municiador para recolocar rapidamente novos carregadores. Apesar da produção ter terminado em 1943 manteve-se como arma padrão depois da Segunda Guerra Mundial até ser substituída por metralhadoras mais modernas. A M37 foi adoptada como metralhadora pesada padrão do Exército Português em 1938. Aqui era oficialmente denominada Metralhadora Breda m/938.
