- Una deflagració d'escapament és una explosió produïda per un motor de combustió interna en funcionament que ocorre en el sistema d'admissió o d'escapament en lloc de a la cambra de combustió. Una explosió al conducte d'admissió, carburador, o filtre d'aire d'un motor passarà normalment quan les vàlvules d'admissió no estan tancades abans de l'explosió. També s'utilitza el mateix terme quan el combustible o els hidrocarburs exploten en algun lloc del sistema d'escapament. - Eine Fehlzündung ist eine Entzündung des Luft-Kraftstoff-Gemischs bei einem Verbrennungsmotor im heißen Auspuffrohr anstatt im Zylinder. Die Fehlzündung erzeugt einen Knall im Auspuff und kann die Schalldämpferanlage, den Fahrzeugkatalysator und die Lambdasonde beschädigen. Fehlzündungen treten z. B. dann auf, wenn bei einem Ottomotor die Zündkerzen nicht mehr zuverlässig zünden oder wenn in einem schadhaften löchrigen Auspuffstrang Frischluft mit noch unverbranntem Treibstoff reagiert. Um Fehlzündungen bei Shows gewollt zu erzeugen, wird in Showcars ein Schalter für die Unterbrechung der Zündung betätigt. Im Motorsport kommen Fehlzündungen sehr häufig vor, da oftmals für einen Gangwechsel nicht gekuppelt wird, sondern mit Zündunterbrechern gearbeitet wird, um die Kurbelwelle und somit das Getriebe kurzzeitig zu entlasten. Der unverbrannte Treibstoff kommt dann in den heißen Abgastrakt und verbrennt dort explosionsartig, oftmals zu hören durch einen lauten Knall kurz nach dem Gangwechsel. Die Abgaskrümmer und der gesamte Auspuff von Rennmotoren sind jedoch auf diese enorme Belastung ausgelegt. Ein Anti-Lag-System ist eine weitere Möglichkeit, Fehlzündungen kontrolliert zu erzeugen. - A backfire or afterburn is combustion or an explosion produced by a running internal combustion engine that occurs in the exhaust system, rather than inside the combustion chamber. It is also sometimes referred to as an afterfire, especially in cases where the word backfire is used to mean a fuel burn that occurs while an intake valve is open, causing the fire to move backward through the system and out through the intake instead of the exhaust. When the flame moves backward it may also be called a "pop-back." A backfire can be caused either by ignition that happens with an exhaust valve open or unburnt fuel making its way in the hot exhaust system. A visible flame may momentarily shoot out of the exhaust pipe. A backfire is often a sign that the engine is improperly-tuned. The term derives from parallel experiences with early unreliable firearms or ammunition in which the explosive force was directed out at the breech instead of the muzzle.
