- Die Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction (deutsch Andrew-Carnegie-Medaillen für Exzellenz in Fiktion und Nonfiktion) wurden 2010 begründet. Ausgezeichnet werden die besten Romane und Sachbücher für erwachsene Leser. Die Bücher sollen in den USA veröffentlicht worden sein. Der Preis ist nach dem amerikanischen Philanthropen Andrew Carnegie benannt. Damit wird dessen tiefe Liebe zu Büchern gewürdigt. Der Preis wird durch die unterstützt und von der American Library Association (ALA) organisiert. und die (RUSA) sind ebenfalls unterstützend involviert. Ein siebenköpfiges Komitee stellt die Liste aus. Dabei handelt es sich um Literaturexperten. Die Gewinne werden im Juni auf der American Library Association Annual Conference übergeben. They are named in honor of nineteenth-century American philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in recognition of his deep belief in the power of books and learning to change the world. The award is supported by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and administered by the American Library Association (ALA). Booklist and the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) cosponsor the awards. The shortlist and winners are selected by a seven-member selection committee of library experts who work with adult readers. The annually appointed selection committee includes a chair, three Booklist editors or contributors, and three former members of RUSA CODES Notable Books Council. The winners, one each for fiction and nonfiction, are announced at an event in June at the American Library Association Annual Conference; winning authors receive a $5,000 cash award, and two finalists in each category receive $1,500. O prémio é apoiado pela Corporação Carnegie de Nova Iorque e administrado pela American Library Association (ALA). A Booklist e a Referência e o Usuário de Serviços d.e Associação (RUSA) são co-patrocinadores dos prémios. Os finalistas e os vencedores são escolhidos por um comité de sete membros de especialistas bibliotecários que trabalham com adultos leitores. O comité de selecção anual é composto por um presidente, três editores ou colaboradores Booklist, e três ex-membros do Conselho de Livros Notáveis RUSA CODES.
