- The 1961 European Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which figure skaters compete for the title of European Champion in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The competitions took place from January 26 to 29, 1961 in West Berlin, West Germany. The event took place without the participation of skaters from the Soviet Union not because of a political boycott, but rather because an exceptionally mild winter left the Russian skaters with insufficient ice for practice in their home country. The Soviet team was also withdrawn from the originally planned World Championships for the same reason, but that tournament was subsequently cancelled after Sabena Flight 548. The defending champions in all four divisions retained their titles. In the pairs competition, however, the champions Marika Kilius & Hans-Jürgen Bäumler faced a close battle with Margret Göbl & Franz Ningel, who had defeated them at the West German championships earlier in the season. Göbl & Ningel may have been penalized for including an illegal lift in their program. In the ladies' event, Sjoukje Dijkstra built up a lead in the compulsory figures that assured her of victory. Her free skating program was described as "exhausting". The stars of the free skating were and Jana Mrázková, who both reportedly did triple salchow jumps in their programs. Alain Giletti likewise assured himself of victory by winning the figures by a large margin. All three medalists in the men's division gave fine free skating performances. (en)

- Les championnats d'Europe de patinage artistique 1961 ont lieu du 26 au 29 janvier 1961 au Sportpalast de Berlin en Allemagne de l'Ouest. C'est la septième fois que les championnats européens ont lieu à Berlin. Les championnats se sont déroulés sans la participation des patineurs de l'Union soviétique, non pas à cause d'un boycott politique, mais en raison d'un hiver exceptionnellement doux qui les a laissé sans glace suffisante pour s'entraîner dans leur pays d'origine. L'équipe soviétique a également été retirée des championnats du monde pour la même raison, mais ceux-ci ont été finalement annulés par l'Union internationale de patinage à la suite de la catastrophe du vol Sabena 548 qui tue toute l'équipe américaine. - De Europese Kampioenschappen kunstschaatsen zijn wedstrijden die samen een jaarlijks terugkerend evenement vormen, georganiseerd door de Internationale Schaatsunie (ISU). De kampioenschappen van 1961 vonden van 26 tot en met 29 januari plaats in West-Berlijn. Het was de zevende keer dat een EK kampioenschap in Berlijn plaatsvond, eerder werden de kampioenschappen voor de mannen van 1893, 1900, 1907, 1910 en 1930 er gehouden en de gezamenlijke kampioenschappen van 1936. Het was de twaalfde keer dat een EK kampioenschap in (West-)Duitsland plaatsvond, eerder waren ook Hamburg (1891), Bonn (1905), Triberg im Schwarzwald (1925),Dortmund (1953) en Garmisch-Partenkirchen (1960) gaststad voor een EK. Voor de mannen was het de 53e editie, voor de vrouwen en paren was het de 25e editie en voor de ijsdansers de achtste editie. (nl)

Все прошлогодние победители отстояли свои позиции. У мужчин победил представитель Франции Ален Жилетти, у женщин победила представительница Нидерландов Шаукье Дейкстра, среди пар победу одержали представители ФРГ Марика Килиус и Ханс-Юрген Боймлер, в танцах чемпионами Европы стали представители Великобритании Дорин Денни и Кортни Джонс.
