- Die Freie Wahl von 1576 war die insgesamt zweite ihrer Art zur Bestimmung des Königs und Großfürsten der Königlichen Republik der polnischen Krone und des Großfürstentums Litauen durch den Adel in seiner Gesamtheit. Sie fand zwischen dem 8. November 1575 und 1. Februar 1576 statt. In der Nacht vom 28. zum 29. Juni 1574 verließ König Heinrich III. Polen, um die französische Krone in Anspruch nehmen zu können. Polen-Litauen war somit ohne Herrscher und musste durch ein Interregnum regiert werden. - The free election of 1576 was the second royal election to be held in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, which took place in 1575/1576. In the night of June 28–29, 1574, King Henry III of France secretly left Poland to claim the French throne. The Commonwealth was left without a monarch, and the period of interregnum ended with a double election. After a few months of negotiations, Anna Jagiellon and Stephen Báthory were elected co-rulers.
