Millard Fillmore (January 7, 1800 – March 8, 1874) was the 13th President of the United States, serving from 1850 until 1853 and the last member of the Whig Party to hold that office. He was the second Vice President to assume the presidency upon the death of a sitting president, succeeding Zachary Taylor, who died of what is thought to be acute gastroenteritis.

Den Südstaaten war so der Weg zum Pazifik abgeschnitten, daher ließen die Nordstaaten zu, dass der Rest des ehemals mexikanischen Gebiets die Sklaverei erlaubte. Ausgehandelt wurde der Kompromiss vom Great Compromiser Henry Clay. Durch den Kompromiss konnte der Ausbruch des Sezessionskrieges noch elf Jahre hinausgeschoben werden. 1856 bewarb er sich nochmals um die Präsidentschaft für die American Party, eine rechte Splittergruppe, wurde aber nur abgeschlagener Dritter. Fillmore war der erste Gesundheitsfanatiker im Amt des US-Präsidenten und tatsächlich auch der erste, von dem keine Krankheiten überliefert sind. Er trank keinen Alkohol, rauchte keinen Tabak und hielt sich auch sonst von allen ihm bekannten Gesundheitsrisiken fern.

Han var gift två gånger, först med Abigail Powers Fillmore och sedan med Caroline Fillmore. Millard Fillmore var vicepresident från 1849 under Zachary Taylor och efterträdde Taylor vid dennes död 1850. Fillmore var också nominerad till president 1856, då för det främlingsfientliga Knownothings.
