  • In der Schweiz sind Auengebiete von nationaler Bedeutung seit 1992 durch eine Bundesverordnung geschützt. Ziel der Verordnung ist es, die wichtigsten Auengebiete ungeschmälert zu erhalten. Die Verordnung wurde verfasst aufgrund einer Empfehlung des Europarats von 1982, die noch vorhandenen Auen zu schützen. Zugrundeliegendes Gesetz ist Artikel 18a Absätze 1 und 3 des Bundesgesetzes vom 1. Juli 1961 über den Natur- und Heimatschutz, das Natur- und Heimatschutzgesetz. Verantwortlich ist das Bundesamt für Umweltschutz. Gegenwärtig sind durch diese Verordnung 282 Objekte mit insgesamt 226 km² geschützt, was etwa einem halben Prozent der Fläche der Schweiz entspricht. (de)
