- Formační tanec je stylem společenského tance. Jedná se o choreografii celého formačního týmu, při které nejvíce záleží na dodržení daných útvarů a na jednotě projevu všech tanečních párů. Choreografie může být založena na jednom konkrétním tanci či skupině tanců. Staví se buď za účely exhibice nebo mezi sebou jednotlivé týmy soutěží. (cs)

- Formationstanzen ist im Gegensatz zum Paartanz und Solotanz das gemeinsame koordinierte Tanzen von mehr als zwei Personen. Prinzipiell lässt sich das Formationstanzen in zwei Arten aufteilen. Zum einen gibt es Formationen aus Einzeltänzern und zum anderen Formationen aus Paaren. Formationen aus Einzeltänzern sind z. B. im Jazz-Modern-Dance und im Gardetanz, als auch im Hip-Hop, Showdance und Stepptanz verbreitet. Formationen aus Paaren tanzen entweder einen einzelnen Tanz oder eine größere Anzahl von Tänzen ähnlicher Art. Je nach getanzten Tänzen kann wiederum in eine Vielzahl von Arten untergliedert werden. Im deutschsprachigen Raum am etabliertesten sind die Standard- und Latein-Formationen, welche in den Ligen des Deutschen Tanzsportverbands (DTV) starten. Zehn-Tänze-Formationen, die alle zehn Standard- und Lateintänze tanzen, gibt es derzeit in Deutschland nicht. Dieser Artikel behandelt in erster Linie den Formationssport im Bereich der Standard- und Lateintänze, wie er vom DTV und der World Dancesport Federation (WDSF) reglementiert wird. Hier besteht ein Formationsteam aus mindestens sechs und maximal acht Paaren. Ein Turnier wird in der Regel mit acht Paaren bestritten. Sonstige Formationen, die Rock ’n’ Roll, Boogie-Woogie oder Jazz-Modern-Dance tanzen, werden in den Artikeln der jeweiligen Tänze behandelt. (de)

- Een formatiedans is een stijldans in een formatie. Het formatiedansen moet worden gezien als stijdansen, alleen dan in teamverband. Een team van maximaal acht paren vormt al dansend de figuren op de dansvloer. Er zijn twee categorieën, namelijk standaard en Latin. Formatiedansen is een jurysport die ook geliefd is bij de niet dans-kenners door mede het showelement, zoals lifts dat wordt toegevoegd aan het dansen. Formatiedansen valt in Nederland onder de danssport die georganiseerd is in de Nederlandse Algemene Danssport Bond (NADB). Deze dansbond is officieel lid van NOC*NSF. Huidig Nederlands Kampioen en rankingkampioen (2019) in de Latindiscipline is Double V uit Hoorn met haar kür "Final Countdown". In de standaarddiscipline zijn deze titels in handen van DSV Sway of Life met de kür "Moulin Rouge". Huidige wedstrijd-deelnemende Nederlandse teams:

* DSV Sway of Life Ballroom Formation In Duitsland is het formatiedansen erg populair, het is een van de weinige landen ook waar grote sponsors "in de rij staan" voor de topteams. In landen als Nederland is het een veel kleinere sport. (nl)
