Indian Railways is currently improving their existing conventional lines to handle speeds of up to 180 km/h (110 mph), and with certain improved corridors seeing speeds of more than 200 km/h (120 mph). Also, a total of twelve corridors are planned and one of the corridors which links Mumbai and Ahmedabad is under construction. As of 2022, the fastest train of India is Vande Bharat Express with a top speed of 180 km/h (110 mph), while the fastest operating train is the Gatimaan Express with a top operating speed of 160 km/h (99 mph).
