- Xuân Diệu, celým jménem Ngô Xuân Diệu (2. února 1916 – 18. prosince 1985 Hanoj) byl jedním z nejvýznamnějších[zdroj?!] vietnamských básníků 20. století. Užíval též pseudonymu Trao Nha (viet. Trảo Nha). Napsal kolem 450 převážně milostných básní, několik povídek, eseje a literární kritiky. Kromě toho také překládal poesii (mj. , Nicolás Guillén). Jeho otec byl učitelem. V roce 1943 vystudoval Xuan Zieu zemědělské inženýrství, v témže roce se připojil k národně osvobozeneckému hnutí Viet Minh. Je velmi znám především pro svou milostnou poesii, jeho básnické sbírky Poesie (viet. Thơ thơ, 1938) a Vůně na křídlech větru (viet. Gửi hương cho gió, 1945–67), oslavující mládí, lásku (z části homosexuální) a přírodu jsou velmi známé, čtou se na vietnamských školách. Je označován za „největšího z nových básníků“ a „krále milostných básní“. V Hanoji je po něm pojmenována ulice. (cs)

Salué par les critiques comme "le plus récent des nouveaux poètes", Xuân Diệu a connu la popularité avec le recueil Thơ thơ (1938), qui témoigne d'une voix distincte influencée par la littérature occidentale, notamment le symbolisme français. Il fut l'un des premiers à employer des procédés poétiques occidentaux comme l'enjambement dans la poésie vietnamienne, tout en adhérant occasionnellement à des formes traditionnelles comme le lục bát. Entre 1936 et 1944, sa poésie se caractérise par un désespoir d'amour, juxtaposé à un désir de vivre et d'expérimenter la beauté du monde. Après avoir rejoint le Parti communiste vietnamien en 1945, les thèmes de ses œuvres se sont orientés vers le parti et sa résistance contre les français et les américains. Heralded by critics as "the newest of the New Poets", Xuân Diệu rose to popularity with the collection Thơ thơ (1938), which demonstrates a distinct voice influenced by Western literature, notably French symbolism. He was one of the first to employ Western poetic devices like enjambment in Vietnamese poetry, while occasionally adhering to traditional forms like lục bát. Between 1936 and 1944, his poetry was characterized by a desperation for love, juxtaposed with a desire to live and to experience the beauty of the world. After joining the Vietnamese Communist Party in 1945, the themes of his works shifted towards the Party and their resistance against the French and the Americans. When he died in 1985, he left behind about 450 poems, as well as several short stories, essays, and literary criticisms. Although his love poems use expressions and pronouns that are more commonly associated with heterosexual relationships, Xuân Diệu was confirmed by many, including his close friends, to be gay. According to the writer Tô Hoài, his homosexuality was known amongst his fellow soldiers during their time in the revolutionary base, which had at some point led to admonishments from the military. To this day, the impact of his sexual orientation on his poetry remains a topic of discussion. (en)
