- Zum Welterbe in Äthiopien gehören (Stand 2016) neun UNESCO-Welterbestätten, darunter acht Stätten des Weltkulturerbes und eine Stätte des Weltnaturerbes. Der ostafrikanische Staat Äthiopien hat die Welterbekonvention 1977 ratifiziert. Die Felsenkirchen von Lalibela und der Simien-Nationalpark gehörten 1978 zu den zwölf Stätten, die als erste in die Welterbeliste aufgenommen wurden. Als bislang letzte Welterbestätte in Äthiopien wurde 2011 die Kulturlandschaft der Konso in die Welterbeliste aufgenommen. (de)
- The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Sites are places of importance to cultural or natural heritage as described in the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, established in 1975 Ethiopia ratified the convention as one of the first countries on July 6, 1977, making its historical sites eligible for inclusion on the list. Sites in Ethiopia were first inscribed on the list at the 2nd Session of the World Heritage Committee, held in Washington, D.C. in 1978. At that session, two sites were added: the Rock-Hewn Churches, Lalibela and Simien National Park. As of August 2021, Ethiopia has nine total sites inscribed on the list. Of these, one site, Simien National Park, is of natural type, and the others are cultural sites. (en)

- A Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, a Ciência e a Cultura (UNESCO) propôs um plano de proteção aos bens culturais do mundo, através do Comité sobre a Proteção do Património Mundial Cultural e Natural, aprovado em 1972. Esta é uma lista do Patrimônio Mundial existente na Etiópia, especificamente classificada pela UNESCO e elaborada de acordo com dez principais critérios cujos pontos são julgados por especialistas na área. A Etiópia, que foi berço de uma das mais esplendorosas civilizações da África Ocidental - o Império de Axum - além de abrigar os primeiros vestígios do homo sapiens, ratificou a convenção em 6 de julho de 1977, tornando seus locais históricos elegíveis para inclusão na lista. Parque Nacional do Simien e Igrejas Escavadas na Rocha de Lalibela - respectivamente sítios de interesse natural e cultural - foram os dois primeiros sítios da Etiópia inscritos na lista do Patrimônio Mundial por ocasião da 2ª Sessão do Comitê do Patrimônio Mundial, realizada em Washington, D.C. em 1978. Desde a mais recente adesão à lista, a Etiópia conta atualmente com um total de nove sítios inscritos como Patrimônio Mundial da UNESCO, sendo 8 sítios classificados como bem cultural e somente 1 sítio como bem natural.
