- La Resolució 538 del Consell de Seguretat de les Nacions Unides, aprovada el 18 d'octubre de 1983 després de recordar resolucions 425 (1978), 426 (1978), 508 (1982), 509 (1982) i 520 (1982) així com l'estudi del Secretari General sobre la Força Provisional de les Nacions Unides al Líban (FPNUL), el Consell va decidir prorrogar el mandat de la FPNUL durant tres mesos més fins al 19 d'abril de 1984. El Consell va demanar al Secretari General que informés sobre els progressos realitzats respecte a l'aplicació de la resolució. La resolució 538 va ser aprovada per 13 vots contra cap, amb dues abstencions de la República Popular de Polònia i Unió Soviètica. (ca)

Usai mengulang resolusi-resolusi 425 (1978), 426 (1978), 508 (1982), 509 (1982) dan 520 (1982), serta laporan dari Sekjen perihal United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), DKPBB memutuskan untuk memperpanjang masa penugasan UNIFIL selama tiga bulan sampai 19 April 1984. - United Nations Security Council resolution 538, adopted on 18 October 1983, after recalling resolutions 425 (1978), 426 (1978), 508 (1982), 509 (1982) and 520 (1982), as well as studying the report by the Secretary-General on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the Council decided to extend the mandate of UNIFIL for a further six months until 19 April 1984. The Council then requested the Secretary-General to report back on the progress made with regard to the implementation of the resolution.
