- Tonopah Test Range, kurz TTR, auch Area 52, ist eine Militäranlage etwa 50 km südöstlich von Tonopah im Nye County, Nevada (USA). Sie liegt im nördlichen Teil der Nellis Range und ist der Öffentlichkeit nicht zugänglich. Die Tonopah Test Range hat eine Fläche von ca. 1.600 km². Sie wurde 1957 als Testgelände für militärische Programme des United States Department of Energy eröffnet und die meiste Zeit von den Sandia National Laboratories verwaltet. Sie wird auch für den Start von Höhenforschungsraketen verwendet, mit denen Freifallexperimente durchgeführt werden. Als Tonopah Test Range wird auch der moderne Luftwaffenstützpunkt in der Nähe des Centers (bei 37° 47'N; 116° 46'W) bezeichnet. Der Stützpunkt ist auch dafür bekannt, dass er zwischen 1984 und 1992 der Heimatstützpunkt des Stealth-Flugzeugs F-117 Nighthawk war. Esto es parte de la franja norte del Polígono de Pruebas de Nellis y es inaccesible al público. El Tonopah Test Range está localizado aproximadamente al noroeste de Groom Lake, cerca de la instalación Área 51. - The Tonopah Test Range (TTR, also designated as Area 52) is a highly classified, restricted military installation of the United States Department of Defense, and United States Department of Energy (nuclear stockpile stewardship) located about 30 miles (48 km) southeast of Tonopah, Nevada. It is part of the northern fringe of the Nellis Range, measuring 625 sq mi (1,620 km2). Tonopah Test Range is located about 70 miles (110 km) northwest of Groom Lake, the home of the Area 51 facility. Like the Groom Lake facility, Tonopah is a site of interest to conspiracy theorists, mostly for its use of experimental and classified aircraft. As such, it is not generally the focus of alien enthusiasts, unlike its neighbor. It is currently used for nuclear weapons stockpile reliability testing, research and development of fusing and firing systems, and testing nuclear weapon delivery systems. The airspace comprises restricted area R-4809 of the Nevada Test and Training Range and is often used for military training. (en)
