- الخبايا هي رواية قصيرة صدرت عام 1958 لكاتب حركة «جيل بيت» جاك كيروك. هي حكاية شبه خيالية لعلاقته الغرامية قصيرة الأمد مع ألين لي (1931-1991)، وهي امرأة أفريقية أميركية، في قرية غرينويتش، نيويورك. التقى كيروك بألين في نهاية صيف عام 1953 وقتما كانت تطبع مخطوطات وليام بوروز وألن غينغسبرغ، في شقة ألن القابعة في حي لور إيست سايد. في الرواية القصيرة، نقل كيروك أحداث القصة إلى سان فرانسيسكو وغيّر اسم ألين لي إلى «ماردو فوكس». توصَف بأنها هانئة الروح تتردد على نوادي الجاز والحانات المتسمة بطابع البيت الناشئ في سان فرانسيسكو. يظهر أصدقاء وشخصيات معروفة أخرى من حياة الكاتب في الرواية بقليل من التمويه. بُنيت شخصية فرانك كارمودي على ويليام إس. بوروز، وبُنيت شخصية آدم موراد على ألن غينغسبرغ. حتى غور فيدال يظهر بشخصية الروائي الناجح أرييل لافالينا. تظهر ذات كيروك البديلة باسم ليو بيرسيبايد، ولا يُذكر خصمه الأبدي نيل كاسادي إلا ذكرًا عابرًا تحت اسم ليروي. - Podzemníci (v originále The Subterraneans) je román amerického spisovatele Jacka Kerouaca, vydaný roku 1958. Autobiografický příběh románu je založen na Keroaucově milostném vzplanutí v roce 1953 k afroamerické, drogově závislé dívce Alene Lee, která v románu vystupuje pod jménem Mardou. Kerouac knihu údajně napsal za tři dny a tři noci, kdy pil kávu a bral benzedrin. Odpovídá tomu styl, v knize lze vystopovat snahu zaznamenat každou myšlenku, kterou přinese byť i nepatrný podnět. Výjimkou nejsou košatá souvětí dlouhá přes několik stránek. (cs)
- Les Souterrains (titre original : The Subterraneans) est un roman écrit en octobre 1953 par Jack Kerouac et publié en 1958. Il s'agit d'une romance entre l'alter ego de Kerouac, nommé dans le roman Leo Percepied, et une afro-américaine, , renommée dans le roman Mardou Fox ; elle est présentée comme un esprit libre, fréquentant les clubs de jazz et les endroits de la scène beat de San Francisco. L'action se déroule dans le New York de 1953. D'autres personnalités de la beat generation se succèdent dans le roman, sous des pseudonymes. Frank Carmody est ainsi William Burroughs, Adam Moorad est Allen Ginsberg, Larry O'Hara est Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Leroy est Neal Cassady, etc. Une adaptation cinématographique, The Subterraneans (1960), a été réalisée par Ranald MacDougall dans laquelle Mardou Fox est devenue une française blanche jouée par Leslie Caron. It was the first work of Kerouac’s to be released following the success of On the Road. The Subterraneans and its following novel,The Dharma Bums, both proved to be popular when released in 1958, and are now seen as important works of the Beat Literature.
