- El bucaner (original: The Buccaneer) és una pel·lícula d'aventures estatunidenca dirigida per Anthony Quinn el 1958, i doblada al català Cecil B. DeMille va haver de fer-se càrrec d'aquesta nova versió de The Buccaneer, la pel·lícula de 1938, però va caure malalt. Així que se li va encomanar la direcció a Anthony Quinn (Quinn llavors estava casat amb ) mentre que com a productor va triar al seu vell amic , actor en moltes de les seves pel·lícules. DeMille va supervisar el treball de tots dos, i va aparèixer en la pel·lícula en una presentació pròleg. Douglass Dumbrille va aparèixer en ambdues versions: en la primera pel·lícula, en el paper del governador William Claiborne, en la segona, com a funcionari del port. (ca)

Charlton Heston played a supporting role as Andrew Jackson, the second time that Heston played Jackson, having portrayed him earlier in the 1953 film The President's Lady. The film was shot in Technicolor and VistaVision, the story takes place during the War of 1812, telling a heavily fictionalized version of how the privateer Lafitte helped in the Battle of New Orleans and how he had to choose between fighting for America or for the side most likely to win, the United Kingdom. The movie's supporting cast featured Inger Stevens, Henry Hull, E. G. Marshall, Lorne Greene, Ted de Corsia, Ed Hinton, Douglass Dumbrille and Majel Barrett. (Ty Hardin was uncredited). Anthony Quinn directed the film. Possibly as a film tie-in, Johnny Horton had a big success at the time with his version of the song The Battle of New Orleans. (en)

- The Buccaneer is een Amerikaanse film uit 1958 van regisseur Anthony Quinn met in de hoofdrollen Yul Brynner en Charlton Heston. De film is een remake van de film The Buccaneer uit 1938. De versie uit 1938 was gebaseerd op de roman Lafitte the Pirate van Lyle Saxon. Het verhaal is losjes gebaseerd op historische feiten en wel de Slag om New Orleans in 1814. Zowel de piraat Lafitte als gouverneur Jackson hebben echt bestaan. Ondanks de historische achtergrond is de film niet altijd historisch correct. De film was een commercieel succes, maar de critici waren niet mals: ze prezen wel de oorlogsscènes, maar waren weinig te spreken over acteerprestaties. Ook Cecil B. DeMille, de producent, was niet te spreken over het eindresultaat. (nl)
