- Texas Hill Country AVA (anerkannt seit dem 29. November 1991) ist ein Weinbaugebiet im US-Bundesstaat Texas. Das Gebiet befindet sich im nördlich der Stadt San Antonio und westlich von Austin. Dieses Weinbaugebiet ist die zweitgrößte American Viticultural Area, und erstreckt sich theoretisch über 36.400 km². Die tatsächlich bestockte Rebfläche liegt jedoch bei geringen 300 Hektar. Innerhalb des Texas Hill Country ist der Einfluss deutscher Einwanderer allgegenwärtig. Aufgrund des warmen Klimas konnten die Einwanderer im Weinbau jedoch keine Akzente setzen, da die deutschen Rebsorten für die klimatischen Bedingungen vor Ort nicht geeignet sind. The appellation is the third largest American Viticultural Area in geographic area behind the Upper Mississippi River Valley AVA and Ohio River Valley AVA, covering an area of over 9,000,000 acres (14,062 sq mi). Established in 1991, it is the southernmost AVA. Today, there are around 80 wineries/vineyards. Despite the cultural influence of the local Texas German population, most of the grape varietals grown in the Texas Hill Country originate from France, Italy, or Spain rather than the cooler climate of Germany.
