- In baseball, to tag up is for a baserunner to retouch or remain on their starting base (the time-of-pitch base) until (after) the ball is first touched by a fielder. By rule, baserunners must tag up when a hit ball is caught before it bounces by a fielder, and in such situations, are out if any fielder with possession of the ball touches their starting base before they do. After a legal tag up, runners are free to attempt to advance, even if the ball was caught in foul territory. Em eliminações por bolas altas longas, muitas vezes os corredores podem ganhar uma base; quando um corredor anota por esse meio, isso é chamado de fly de sacrifício. Em bolas altas curtas, os corredores raramente tentam avançar após o tag up. Depois de uma bola alta pega, se o defensor com a bola puder que o corredor não tocou sua base de momento do arremesso após a bola ser defendida, tocando o corredor com a bola ou sua base de momento do arremesso antes que ele a retoque, o corredor está .
