- Problém ukotvení symbolů se týká otázky, kde slova (znaky, symboly) berou svůj význam a co tento význam vlastně je. Podle uznávané teorie, komputacionalismu, je poznání (myšlení) jen forma výpočtu. Výpočet je však opět formální manipulace se symboly. Ty jsou manipulovány podle pravidel, které jsou založeny na tvaru symbolů, nikoliv na jejich významu. Jak jsou tyto symboly (například slova v našich hlavách) připojeny k věci, ke které se vztahují? Byl definován roku 1990. (cs)
- Le Problème du fondement des symboles (symbol grounding problem en anglais) peut se formuler ainsi : comment un mot, ou plus généralement un symbole, acquiert-il son sens ? Qu'est vraiment le sens, la signification ? Comment un état mental peut-il avoir du sens ? C'est un problème en lien avec celui de la conscience.
