- السفياني هي شخصية مستقبلية وردت في التراث الشيعي من علم آخر الزمان في الإسلام. ورد في بعض الأحاديث «الضعيفة» أنه ينحدر من نسل أبي سفيان. ويعتقد الشيعة أنه سيكون منافس ومعارض للمهدي. وأنه المقصود بـ «رجل من قريش» في حديث خسف البيداء. يعتقد بعض النقاد أن شخصية السفياني مبتكرة كنوع من النقد السياسي للدولة الأموية باعتبار أن كل خلفائها من نسل الصحابي أبي سفيان. والبعض الآخر يعتقد أن هذه الأحاديث التي حكم عليها أهل الحديث إما أنها ضعيفة أو موضوعة، إنما وُضِعَت لمناهضة ثورة زياد السفياني في الشام ضد العباسيين. خروج السفياني هو إحدى علائم ظهور محمد بن الحسن المهدي في العقيدة الشيعية التي سجلتها المصادر الروائية، وأنه من العلامات الحتمية، حسب الحديث المنسوب لجعفر الصادق أنه قال: قَبْلَ قِيامِ الْقَائِمِ خَمْسُ عَلَامَاتٍ مَحْتُومَاتٍ: اليماني والسفياني والصيحة وقتل النفس الزكية والخسف بالبيداء. والسفياني كالدجال رجل طاغية يعيث في الأرض فساداً قبل ظهور محمد بن الحسن المهدي. وأنه من الطواغيت المعارضين والمعادين لمحمد بن الحسن المهدي. وأن عاقبته وجيشه أن يخسف بهم في البيداء. - Sufyani (Arabic: سفیاني) is an evil figure in Islamic eschatology, usually portrayed in hadith as a tyrant who will spread corruption and mischief. According to Shia Hadith, Sufyani will rise in the month of Rajab. The predicted location of his arrival is in Damascus. Reports about Sufyani are available in both Sunni and Shia Hadith. Sufyani is a not to be confused with another villainous figure of end times, the Dajjal. It is said that he will kill children and rip out the bellies of women. The Sufyani will murder those from the household of the Prophet and will rule over Syria. When the Mahdi appears, Sufyani will send an army to seize and kill him. However, when Sufyani and his army would reach the desert of Bayda, they would be swallowed. However some (mostly Sunni) sources claim Hadith describing Sufyani as tyrannical figure of end times as unreliable, based on a "garbled version" of a legend "fabricated by traditionists with Shi'ite and pro- 'Abbasid sentiments". Others reverse his role as an evil-doer, describing him as an ally not enemy of the Mahdi. (en)
