Stéphane Aubier rencontre Vincent Patar à l'Institut des Beaux-Arts de Saint-Luc à Liège ; en 1986, ils entrent tous deux à l'École supérieure des arts visuels de la Cambre de Bruxelles où ils obtiennent leur diplôme en 1991. À noter que Stéphane Aubier joue un rôle de quelques dixièmes de seconde dans C'est arrivé près de chez vous où il reçoit une balle en plein œil. (fr)

It premiered at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and was the first stop-motion film to be screened at the festival. In 2013, he co-directed with Patar and Benjamin Renner the film Ernest & Celestine, which received widespread critical acclaim. The film received three Magritte Awards, including Best Film and Best Director for Aubier and Patar. It also received a nomination at the 86th Academy Awards, in the category of Best Animated Feature. (en)

Con questo film ha vinto il Méliès d'argento.
