- Dans une optique radicalement différente de celle de The Jimi Hendrix Concerts, Alan Douglas publia en 1991 Stages, un coffret 4 CD retraçant quatre concerts de Jimi Hendrix, un par année, de 1967 à 1970. À la logique de la compilation, il substituait une approche plus proche des pirates, en proposant des performances se voulant représentatives des concerts de Jimi Hendrix, avec leurs forces, mais sans gommer les points faibles. Partant du principe que seuls les véritables amateurs du guitariste seraient susceptibles de s'offrir un tel objet, Alan Douglas pensait légitimement récuser l'accusation de publier du matériel ne répondant pas toujours à un degré d'exigence minimale. On pourrait comparer le procédé à ce que propose Dagger Records aujourd'hui, à la nuance près que les 4 concerts sont enregistrés professionnellement. Experience Hendrix LLC ne semble d'ailleurs pas trop savoir quoi faire de ce matériel : à l'exception de quelques titres publiés sur The Jimi Hendrix Experience Box Set, tout ce matériel est redevenu inédit depuis. - Stages is a four-CD box set consisting of live performances by Jimi Hendrix covering four years of his career. Disc one is the complete September 5, 1967, concert in Stockholm. Disc two is the complete January 29, 1968 (late show) concert in Paris; this was later released on Dagger Records as part of Live in Paris & Ottawa 1968. Disc three is most of the May 24, 1969 concert in San Diego with "Foxey Lady" missing from the set. Disc four is a majority of the July 4, 1970 concert at the Atlanta International Pop Festival with five songs missing from the set. These additional five songs can be found on the album Freedom: Atlanta Pop Festival, which also presents the performance in the correct playing order. Stages was released in November 1991 on Reprise Records, and is currently out of print. (en)
