- Stone Free est une chanson écrite par Jimi Hendrix et enregistrée avec son groupe The Jimi Hendrix Experience le 2 novembre 1966. Elle est sortie en face B du premier single de Jimi Hendrix, Hey Joe, le 16 décembre 1966.Elle est aussi sortie en single aux États-Unis en 1969, avec If 6 Was 9 en face B. Absente des éditions britannique et américaine de l'album Are You Experienced, les rééditions de 1997 l'incluent désormais. Tout comme sur Purple Haze ou Foxy Lady, Hendrix utilise l'accord de dominante 7/9# (sur le riff principal). Il utilisait si souvent cet accord qu'il est souvent considéré comme « l'accord d'Hendrix ». Les paroles de la chanson traitent de la liberté : « Tous les jours de la semaine, je suis dans différentes villes. Si je reste trop longtemps, les gens essayent de me rabaisser. »

- "Stone Free" is a song written by Jimi Hendrix and the second song recorded by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. It has been described as a "counterculture anthem, with its lyrics praising the footloose and fancy-free life", which reflected Hendrix's restless lifestyle. Instrumentally, the song has a strong rhythmic drive provided by drummer Mitch Mitchell with harmonic support by bassist Noel Redding. "Stone Free" was issued on December 16, 1966, as the B-side of the Experience's first UK single "Hey Joe" and later included on the Smash Hits compilation album. In April 1969, Hendrix recorded a revised rendition of the song for possible release as a single. However, it was not used and Reprise Records issued the original recording as a single in the U.S. on September 15, 1969. Hendrix often played "Stone Free" in concert using extended arrangements, sometimes lasting over fourteen minutes. The revised song and several live recordings were later released. (en)
