Er war die Kirche des Kanonikerstiftes St. Patrokli, das im 10. Jahrhundert entstand und bis zur Aufhebung 1812 bestand. Seit 1823 ist der Dom die Pfarrkirche der dem Bistum Paderborn zugeordneten Pfarrgemeinde St. Patrokli. 1859 wurde er zur Propsteikirche (ecclesia praeposita) erhoben. (de)
