- The Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) (dt. Gesellschaft für Naturschutzbiologie) ist eine internationale Nichtregierungsorganisation mit dem Ziel, den Verlust von Biologischer Vielfalt zu verhindern ("maintenance, loss, and restoration of biological diversity"). Sie hat weltweit mehr als 10.000 Mitglieder. SCB wurde am 5. Mai, 1985 in Ann Arbor, Michigan (USA) von Michael Soulé gegründet. Ihr Präsident ist Michael B. Mascia, Conservation International. In den USA existieren 31 Gliederungen (chapter) und 13 außerhalb der USA. Die SCB gibt das Conservation Magazine heraus, und veröffentlicht seit 1987 die Fachzeitschrift Conservation Biology sowie seit 2008 die Open Access Online-Publikation Conservation Letters. (de)

There are over 4,000 members worldwide, including students and those in related non-academic sectors.There are 35 chapters throughout the world. The society was founded in 1985 and began publishing the peer reviewed journal Conservation Biology in 1987, published by Blackwell Scientific publishers. This has been supplemented since 2007 by the rapid publication journal Conservation Letters ISSN 1755-263X. (en)

La società conta oltre 10.000 membri in tutto il mondo, con 31 sedi negli Stati Uniti e altre 13 nel resto del mondo. La società si originò negli anni '70 del Novecento, quando la biologia della conservazione stava emergendo come una disciplina a sé stante. La dicitura biologia della conservazione (en.conservation biology) fu coniata a una conferenza di ecologi e biologi delle popolazioni presso la University of Michigan, che culminò nella pubblicazione del libro "Conservation Biology" An Evolutionary-Ecological Perspective .
