- The Sheffield Shield (currently known for sponsorship reasons as the Marsh Sheffield Shield) is the domestic first-class cricket competition of Australia. The tournament is contested between teams from the six states of Australia. Sheffield Shield is named after Lord Sheffield. Prior to the Shield being established, a number of intercolonial matches were played. The Shield, donated by Lord Sheffield, was first contested during the 1892–93 season, between New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. Queensland was admitted for the 1926–27 season, Western Australia for the 1947–48 season, and Tasmania for the 1977–78 season. The competition is contested in a double-round-robin format, with each team playing every other team twice, i.e. home and away. Points are awarded based on wins, draws, ties and bonus points for runs and wickets in a team's first 100 batting and bowling overs, with the top two teams playing a final at the end of the season. Regular matches last for four days; the final lasts for five days. (en)

W sezonie 1999/2000 rozgrywki nosiły nazwę Pura Milk Cup, a w kolejnych ośmiu (do 2007/08) - Pura Cup. Sheffield Shield to najbardziej prestiżowe krajowe zawody w Australii, a mecze w ich ramach zaliczane są do tzw. meczów pierwszoklasowych. Rozgrywane są zazwyczaj od października do marca, a uczestniczy w nich sześć stanów: Nowa Południowa Walia, Wiktoria, Australia Południowa (wszystkie od pierwszej edycji), Queensland (od sezonu 1926/27), Australia Zachodnia (od sezonu 1947/48) oraz Tasmania (od sezonu 1977/78). Podczas I i II wojny światowej turniej zawieszano. Od sezonu 1927/28 mecze trwają maksymalnie 4 dni. Wcześniej grano bez ograniczeń, do osiągnięcia rezultatu. Od początku rozgrywek obowiązuje dwurundowy system każdy z każdym, a od sezonu 1982/83 dwie najlepsze ekipy w tabeli grają mecz o mistrzostwo, w którym wyżej notowanej drużynie wystarcza remis lub brak wyniku, by zdobyć tytuł. Aktualnym mistrzem (sezon 2011/12) jest Queensland, a rekordzistą pod względem liczby tytułów jest Nowa Południowa Walia, która triumfowała 45-krotnie. (pl)

Si gioca tra sei squadre di club australiane di cricket ogni anno nel periodo che va da ottobre a maggio. Alla fine del torneo, formato da 10 giornate di andata e 10 di ritorno, la squadra che vince il maggior numero di incontri si laurea campione e conquista il trofeo chiamato Pura Cup. (it)
