Charlesworth later coached the Kookaburras from 2009 to 2014, and has also worked in consulting roles with the New Zealand national cricket team, the Australian Institute of Sport, and the Fremantle Football Club (an Australian football team). Charlesworth werd na zijn politieke avontuur coach van de Australische dameshockeyploeg van 1993 tot 2000. Hij won met de dames de Champions Trophys van 1993, 1995 en 1999 en ook werd hij in 1994 en 1998 Wereldkampioen met de dames.
