- Selim Palmgren (Pori, 16 de febrer de 1878 - Hèlsinki, 13 de desembre de 1951), nom complet Selim Gustaf Adolf Palmgren, fou un compositor, pianista i director d'orquestra finlandès. Estudià en el Conservatori de Hèlsinki des de 1895 fins al 1899, sent deixeble de Wegelius (composició) i de Petzer (piano). Més tard amplià coneixements a Alemanya i Itàlia. En aquest últim país cursà el piano durant algun temps amb Busoni. De retorn a Finlàndia, es donà conèixer com a brillant concertista, inspirat compositor i notable director d'orquestra i masses corals. El 1910 donà al teatre la seva primera òpera, , estrenada llavors a Helsingfors (avui Hèlsinki). El 1923 es traslladà als Estats Units, sent nomenat professor de composició de l'Eastman School of Music, de Rochester. Va escriure una altra òpera, , mai representada, diverses obres corals i gran quantitat de música per a piano, entre ella dos Concerts titulats Methamorphoses i The River. (ca)

- Selim Gustaf Adolf Palmgren (16 February 1878 – 13 December 1951) was a Finnish composer, pianist, and conductor. Palmgren was born in Pori, Finland, February 16, 1878. He studied at the Conservatory in Helsinki from 1895 to 1899, then continued his piano studies in Berlin with Ansorge, Berger and Busoni. He conducted choral and orchestral societies in his own country and made several very successful concert tours as a pianist in the principal cities of Finland and Scandinavia, appearing also as a visiting conductor. In 1921, he went to the United States, where he taught composition at the Eastman School of Music, later returning to Finland, where he died in Helsinki, aged 73. Palmgren was married to the opera singer Maikki Järnefelt. (en)

Najbardziej znany jest ze swoich miniatur fortepianowych Majowa noc inspirowanych pieśniami ludowymi.
