- Las tierras altas y mesetas de Sajonia ( en alemán, Sächsisches Bergland und Mittelgebirge) son una región natural situada principalmente en el sur de Sajonia, con pequeños elementos también en el sureste de Turingia y el noreste de Baviera. Comprende, desde el suroeste hasta el noreste, el Vogtland, los Montes Metálicos, la Suiza sajona, la meseta de la Alta Lusacia y las . La amalgama de varias unidades geográficas importantes llevada a cabo por el grupo de trabajo para el equilibrio ecológico y el carácter regional de la Academia de Ciencias de Sajonia en Leipzig, que incluye una escisión de la antigua región natural de Oberlausitz, no ha sido plenamente reconocida oficialmente, ya que esta división aún no ha sido aceptada por las autoridades federales como el Bundesamt für Naturschutz (BfN), pero sigue a grandes rasgos la lógica de otras agrupaciones como la del , que lo bordea por el oeste y que incluye el bosque de Turingia, el , el bosque de Franconia y el Fichtelgebirge. Die Systematik der Naturräume in Sachsen gruppiert die naturräumlichen Einheiten der oberen chorischen Dimensionsstufe (Makrogeochoren) zu drei sächsischen Naturregionen, um ihre Einordnung im regionischen Maßstab zu verdeutlichen. Das Sächsische Bergland und Mittelgebirge ist ein Teil der Zentraleuropäischen Mittelgebirgsschwelle, die sich westlich im Thüringisch-Fränkischen Mittelgebirge, östlich in den Sudeten fortsetzt. Die Naturregion nimmt etwa ein Drittel der Fläche des Freistaats Sachsen ein. Ihre Abgrenzung wurde im Südwesten, Südosten und Osten deckungsgleich mit der sächsischen Landes- bzw. deutschen Staatsgrenze gezogen, da sich die zugrundeliegende Naturraumerfassung auf das Territorium Sachsens beschränkte, jedoch erstreckt sich die physiogeographische Charakteristik der Makrogeochoren jeweils um einiges über diese willkürliche Kartierungsgrenze hinaus. Lediglich im Norden bildet der Rand der geschlossenen Verbreitung der Lössböden eine definierte Naturraumgrenze, die das Sächsische Bergland und Mittelgebirge von der Naturregion Sächsisches Lössgefilde scheidet. - The Saxon Highlands and Uplands (German: Sächsisches Bergland und Mittelgebirge) refer to a natural region mainly in the south of Saxony with small elements also in southeast Thuringia and northeast Bavaria. It comprises, from (south)west to (north)east, of the Vogtland, the Ore Mountains, Saxon Switzerland, the Upper Lusatian Plateau and the Zittau Hills. The amalgamation of several major geographical units by the working group for Ecological balance and Regional Character at the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig, that includes a break-up of the old natural region of Oberlausitz, has not been fully recognised officially, because this division has not yet been accepted by federal authorities like the Bundesamt für Naturschutz (BfN), but does broadly follow the logic of other groupings such as that of the Thuringian-Franconian Upland which border it to the west and includes the Thuringian Forest, Thuringian Highland, Franconian Forest and Fichtelgebirge. Whilst the Thuringian-Franconian Upland, like the adjacent Upper Palatine-Bavarian Forest run from northwest to southeast, these low Saxon mountains generally run from west-southwest to east-northeast. The Vogtland, whose German section lies mainly in the natural region in the Free State of Saxony that gives it its name, forms the actual link to the Thuringian-Franconian Upland. The new internal subdivisions of the Ore Mountains have since been adopted by the BfN. (en)
