On September 21, 2017, he was selected by President Donald Trump to become the next United States Ambassador to Luxembourg. The nomination, which was submitted to the Senate on September 28, 2017, was confirmed on May 24, 2018. On January 20, 2021, Evans resigned as United States Ambassador to Luxembourg with the end of President Trump's term in office. Pending appointment of his successor by incoming President Biden, his responsibilities were assumed in an acting capacity by Casey Mace, Charge d'Affaires. (en)
