- Der Doppelvierer (Abkürzung 4x) ist eine Bootsklasse im Rudersport. Im Boot sitzen vier Ruderer, die mit jeweils zwei Skulls das Boot antreiben. Die Variante des Doppelvierers ohne Steuermann (4x-) ist heute weitaus bedeutender, wenngleich auch der Doppelvierer mit Steuermann (4x+) existiert und auf Ruderregatten ausgefahren wird. Auch als Leichtgewichts-Version ist der Doppelvierer heute von Bedeutung. Nach dem Riemen-Achter ist der Doppelvierer (ohne Stm.) als größtes Mannschaftsboot im Skullbereich die zweitschnellste Bootsklasse im Rudersport. - Un cuatro scull, cuádruple scull, simbolizado como 4x, es un tipo de bote de competición de remo. Está diseñado para cuatro personas que propulsan la embarcación usando 2 remos cada una (uno en cada mano), lo que se llama remar en couple o en pareja. Como el resto de embarcaciones de competición de remo, se trata de un bote largo y fino, con una sección en forma semicircular con el objetivo de reducir al máximo el arrastre debido al rozamiento con el agua. Normalmente tienen una orza cerca de la popa, para reducir el balanceo y guiñada. Originalmente, el casco de la embarcación estaba hecho de madera pero actualmente, cada vez más, se usa un material compuesto como puede el plástico reforzado con fibra de carbono, debido a sus ventajas en cuanto fuerza/peso. Los portantes transmiten la fuerza aplicada a través de los remos hacia el cuerpo de la embarcación, en el caso de barcos en couple, de manera simétrica a ambos lados del bote. El cuatro scull es una de las clases reconocidas por la Federación Internacional de Remo y una de las modalidades incluidas en los Juegos Olímpicos. En contraste a la modalidad del o , en las cuales, la distribución de fuerzas en los portantes se realiza de forma alternativa a cada banda, las distribución simétrica en las modalidades de couple resulta más eficiente, por lo cual, el doble scull es, en general, ligeramente más rápido que el dos sin y bastante más que el "dos con" por tener este el peso adicional del timonel. - A quadruple sculling boat, often simply called a quad and abbreviated 4x, is a rowing boat used in the sport of competitive rowing. It is designed for four people who propel the boat by sculling with two oars, or "sculls", one in each hand. Racing boats (often called "shells") are long, narrow, and broadly semi-circular in cross-section in order to reduce drag. They usually have a fin towards the rear, to help prevent roll and yaw. Originally made from wood, shells are now almost always made from a composite material (usually carbon-fiber reinforced plastic) for strength and weight advantages. The riggers in sculling apply the forces symmetrically to each side of the boat. Quad sculls is one of the classes recognized by the International Rowing Federation and the Olympics. FISA rules specify minimum weights for each class of boat so that no individual will gain a great advantage from the use of expensive materials or technology. When there are four rowers in a boat, each with only one sweep oar and rowing on opposite sides, the combination is referred to as a "coxed four" or "coxless four" depending on whether the boat has a cox. In sweep oared racing the rigging means the forces are staggered alternately along the boat. The symmetrical forces in sculling make the boat more efficient and so the quadruple scull is faster than the coxless four. A 'quad' is different from a 'four' in that a 'quad', or quadruple scull, is composed of four rowers each with two blades, sculling. Pour les placer, ils utilisent le système dit TGV (Tribord Gauche Vert) : la verte se place donc à gauche, la rame tribord se place toujours au-dessus de la rame bâbord. En aviron de mer, le quatre de couple est généralement barré, la nomenclature précise devrait donc être 4X+ contrairement à la nomenclature 4X qui désigne un quatre de couple non barré, comme c'est le cas pour les autres bateaux armés en couple (1X et 2X).
