- مجلس السلم والأمن الإفريقي هو جهازٌ تابعٌ للإتحاد الإفريقي والمسؤول عن تنفيذ قرارات الاتحاد وهو مشابه إلى حد ما لمجلس الأمن الدولي التابع للأمم المتحدة ويتم انتخاب الأعضاء من قبل الجمعية للاتحاد الأفريقي بحيث تعكس التوازن الإقليمي في أفريقيا، فضلا عن مجموعة متنوعة من المعايير الأخرى، بما في ذلك القدرة على المساهمة عسكريا وماليا للاتحاد، والإرادة السياسية للقيام بذلك، وجود دبلوماسي فعال في اديس ابابا ويتكون المجلس من خمسة عشر بلدا، منها خمسة بلدان يتمإنتخابها كل ثلاث سنوات، وعشرة دول لمدة سنتين. يتم إعادة مؤهلة بلدان فور انتهاء ولايتهم.كما أن القوة الأفريقية الجاهزة هو برنامج عسكري يرتبط به. - Mírová a bezpečnostní rada je orgánem Africké unie. Institucionalizuje a nahrazuje dřívější Mechanismus prevence, usměrňování a řešení konfliktů založený na 29. zasedání hlav států a vlád OAJ v Káhiře v roce 1993. Snad největší výzvou pro Africkou unii je zajištění mírového uspořádání na africkém kontinentě. Africká unie, na rozdíl od OAJ, zavádí možnost i nevyžádané vojenské intervence v členské zemi. V květnu 2004 vznikla Mírová a bezpečnostní rada, která má dohlížet nad vojenskými intervenčními misemi AU. Africká unie již vyslala vojáky do Burundi a súdánského Darfúru. Tyto mise ovšem zatím byly provázeny pochybnostmi ze strany mezinárodního společenství, které mají původ v řadě nesplněných slibů OAJ. Nahrazení výše zmíněného Mechanismu prevence, usměrňování a řešení konfliktů Mírovou a bezpečnostní radou v rámci AU a rozsáhlejší zapojení nové organizace do řešení konfliktů v Dárfúru a v Somálsku ovšem naznačuje nové ambice, které jsou tentokrát více podloženy skutky. Do roku 2010 by měly vzniknout sbory sil rychlé reakce AU. (cs)

- Le Conseil de paix et de sécurité, est l'organe de l'Union africaine chargé de faire exécuter les décisions de l'Union. Le Conseil est basé sur le modèle du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies. Chargé des questions en lien avec la paix, la stabilité et la sécurité en Afrique. Ses membres sont élus par la Conférence de l'Union africaine de manière à refléter l'équilibre régional en Afrique, ainsi que d'autres critères, dont la capacité à contribuer militairement et financièrement à l'Union, la volonté politique de le faire, et l'efficacité de la présence diplomatique à Addis-Abeba. Le Conseil est composé de 15 membres, dont cinq sont élus pour un mandat de trois ans, et dix pour un mandat de 2 ans. Les pays sont immédiatement rééligibles à la fin de leur mandat. - The Peace and Security Council (PSC) is the organ of the African Union in charge of enforcing union decisions. It is patterned somewhat after the United Nations Security Council. The PSC is also the main pillar of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), and works with other pillars of the APSA in order to promote "peace, security and stability in Africa". The specific goal of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) is the "prevention, management and resolution of conflicts". To achieve these goals, it involves subsidiary organizations such as the Military Staff Committee and the Committee of Experts. Members are elected by the African Union Executive Council and endorsed by the Assembly of the African Union so as to reflect regional balance within Africa, as well as a variety of other criteria, including capacity to contribute militarily and financially to the union, political will to do so, and effective diplomatic presence at Addis Ababa. The council is composed of fifteen countries, of which five are elected to three-year terms, and ten to two-year terms. Countries are immediately re-eligible upon the expiration of their terms. (en)
