- Paulina es el quinto álbum de estudio de la cantante mexicana Paulina Rubio, publicado internacionalmente por el sello discográfico Universal Music Group durante el mes de mayo de 2000. Su título, basado en la esencia propia que deja la artista plasmada en su álbum homónimo, fue elogiado por los críticos, quienes señalaron que este representó una buena estrategia comercial y musical. El portal web Allmusic puntuó a Paulina con 4.5 estrellas, considerándolo como uno de los discos en español mejor calificados. Musicalmente, Paulina es un álbum de pop, dance pop y folclore, derivando de este último género una gran variedad de estilos. Tras el gran impacto de su debut en la industria musical a principios de los años 1990, luego del lanzamiento de su álbum debut como solista, La chica dorada (1992), Paulina Rubio trató de consolidar su carrera en Iberoamérica en los años posteriores con tres álbumes que tuvieron un considerable éxito principalmente en su país de origen. Sin embargo, al sentirse un tanto «presionada» por el sello EMI Music decidió ir a juicio para romper contrato con dicha casa discográfica. Con un concepto complejo de expresar, pero bien definido, se rodeó de letristas y productores como Chris Rodríguez, Marcelo Azevedo y el colombiano Julio "Estéfano" Salgado, responsable de los mayores éxitos del álbum. El proceso para la realización de Paulina llevó más de un año, y finalmente Universal Music optó por publicar el álbum bajo un provechoso contrato. El álbum disfrutó de una extensa promoción entre los años 2000 y 2001. Rubio worked with writers and producers such as Estéfano (mostly), Armando Manzanero, Juan Gabriel, Christian De Walden, and Richard Daniel Roman. The album explores a more variety sounds much different to the vein of her albums with EMI Music, and has an overall latin pop and dance-pop vibe, with influences from rock, ranchera, bolero, funk and house. Elaborating a "synthesis of the end of the millennium" theme for the album, Rubio reinvented her image. Paulina was generally acclaimed by most critics and earned Latin Grammy Award nominations. In 2001, Billboard cited it as the best-selling Latin album of 2001 in the U.S. The record was a commercial success, reaching at number one both the Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums charts, and debuted on the Billboard 200, making it her first album to appear on that chart. It received worldwide certifications, including octuple platinum (Latin) by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for 800,000 units shipped in the United States. In Mexico, is one of the best-selling albums according to Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas (AMPROFON). Paulina is Rubio's most successful album with sales of over 3 million copies worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling "Latin" albums. Seven singles were released from the album. L'album è stato nominato ai Latin Grammy Awards come "Miglior album dell'anno", "Miglior album femminile", e "Miglior canzone" per il singolo Y yo sigo aquí. Da questo album sono stati estratti sette singoli, alcuni di successo mondiale: Vive el verano, Lo haré por ti, El ultimo adiós, Y yo sigo aquí, Yo no soy esa mujer, Sexi Dance e Tal vez, quizá.
