- Pan Tau je československý rodinný televizní seriál, vzniklý v koprodukci Československé televize, Filmového studia Barrandov, rakouské společnosti a německých společností a . Premiérově byl vysílán v západním Německu v letech 1970–1979, v Československu jej diváci zhlédli mezi lety 1971 a 1982. Po samostatném pilotním dílu, jejž koprodukoval Carlo Ponti, vzniklo celkem 33 dílů rozdělených do tří řad. Seriál natočil režisér Jindřich Polák podle scénáře, který napsal společně s Otou Hofmanem. Pojednává o panu Tau, kouzelném muži s buřinkou, který plní dětem jejich přání a který se umí proměnit do podoby malé loutky. Titulní postavu ztvárnil Otto Šimánek. Třetí řada seriálu byla sestříhána také do podoby dvou celovečerních filmů Poplach v oblacích a Od zítřka nečaruji (oba 1979), jako epilog vznikl celovečerní snímek Pan Tau (1988). V roce 2020 měla premiéru nová německá seriálová verze Pan Tau. (cs)

- Pan Tau (Czech for "Mr. Tau") is a character created for a children's television series. There were 33 episodes in 3 series made by the Czechoslovak Television (ČST) in cooperation with Barrandov Studios and the West German TV network Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). A pilot film was shot in 1966, and 33 episodes were made from 1970 until 1979. The project ended with a feature film in 1988. The protagonist Pan Tau, who generally didn't speak and communicated through pantomime, was played by Otto Šimánek (1925–1992). The series was written by Ota Hofman and directed by Jindřich Polák. The stories were generally funny but contained some kind of problem for a child, and here Pan Tau found the way to solve the problem. Pan Tau always had a gentle expression and a friendly smile, he was elegantly dressed in a stroller, with an umbrella and a white carnation in the lapel. Foremost, he was famous for his magic bowler hat. By tapping on his hat, Pan Tau was able to change his appearance into a puppet, to conjure up miscellaneous objects or to do other magic. His most characteristic behaviour is that he would help children who were experiencing some sort of difficulties in-between their dreams and reality, like finding a place for skiing, settling family problems on Christmas, and even give a boy a good time at a fair when he is supposed to have piano lessons. To adults, he usually remained invisible. Although Czechoslovakia then was under a Communist regime, this never was very obvious for the viewers. And Pan Tau was a popular children program in several countries at both sides of the Iron Curtain (such as in both West and East Germany and also in the Scandinavian countries), which also appealed to the adult parents in a certain degree. Theodor Pištěk designed the costumes for the series. Ten years after the end of the series, Šimánek again appeared as Pan Tau in a 1988 cinema film. He was also featured in Nena's 1990 music video for Du bist überall ("You Are Everywhere", from the Wunder gescheh'n studio album), which was shot in Prague. (en)

In 2020 kwam een Engelstalige remake uit met de Britse komiek en goochelaar Matt Edwards in de rol van Pan Tau, die nu de mascotte is van de Westpark School. La serie è stata trasmessa in Italia dalla RAI negli anni Settanta. L'aspetto di Pan Tau è quello di un uomo in giacca, bombetta e ombrello, oppure di un pupazzetto, vestito nello stesso modo e animato in stop motion. Una caratteristica del personaggio è la sua bombetta "magica": picchiettando sul cappello, Pan Tau ha la possibilità trasformarsi in essere umano o di nuovo in pupazzetto, di far apparire svariati oggetti, sbloccare porte o provocare altri avvenimenti. La natura del personaggio non è chiara. Nel primo episodio appare per la prima volta come pupazzetto mentre arriva sulla Terra pilotando una piccola astronave d'aspetto rétro. In altri casi appare in modi improbabili (ad esempio emerge dalla neve). Il suo tipico comportamento è quello di aiutare bambini in piccole difficoltà, come trovare un posto per sciare, sistemare i problemi famigliari nel giorno di Natale o persino aiutare un ragazzo a divertirsi alla fiera quando dovrebbe avere lezioni di piano. Pan Tau compare nel video musicale di Nena per Du Bist Überall ("Tu sei ovunque"). I costumi della serie sono stati ideati da Theodor Pištěk. In un episodio appare, in un ruolo secondario, una giovanissima Ivana Zelničková, diventata poi più nota come Ivana Trump. (it)

- Pan Tau är en tjeckoslovakisk TV-serie i samproduktion med den västtyska TV-kanalen WDR. Den spelades in från 1969 till 1978. Handlingen var anpassad för äldre barn och sändes av bland annat Sveriges television. Den gick för första gången i Beppe Wolgers Jullovsmorgon 1971 och 1972 men även 1977 med repris 1979. Serien visades i flera andra länder. Den komiska serien handlade om en man som hette Pan Tau (herr Tau på tjeckiska), som aldrig talade och krympte till 10-15 centimeters storlek när han strök med handen över brättet på sin hatt. Varifrån han kom vet ingen, men han färdades med en propellerförsedd röd farkost, stor som en leksaksbil. Han hjälpte till när barn hamnade i problematiska situationer. (sv)
