- The Oak Island mystery is a series of stories of buried treasure and unexplained objects found on or near Oak Island in Nova Scotia. Since the 18th century, attempts have been made to find treasure and artifacts. Theories about artifacts present on the island range from pirate treasure to Shakespearean manuscripts to the Holy Grail or the Ark of the Covenant, with the Grail and the Ark having been buried there by the Knights Templar. Various items have surfaced over the years that were found on the island, some of which have since been carbon-dated and found to be hundreds of years old. Although these items can be considered treasure in their own right, no significant main treasure site has ever been found. The site consists of digs by numerous individuals and groups of people. The original shaft, in a location unknown today, was dug by early explorers and known as "the money pit". A "curse" on the treasure is said to have originated more than a century ago and states that seven men will die in the search for the treasure before it is found. (en)

Oltre alla teoria generica di un tesoro, sono stati avanzati negli anni teorie relative alla presenza sull'isola dei perduti gioielli di Maria Antonietta o a scritti segreti di William Shakespeare o ancora ad artefatti di natura religiosa. - Mysteriet på Oak Island syftar på utsagor om en nedgrävd skatt och andra okända objekt på Oak Island i Nova Scotia, Kanada. Vid flera tillfällen har man försökt hitta skatten och de andra föremål som påståtts finnas på ön. Bland annat sägs Marie Antoinettes juveler, manuskript av William Shakespeare och olika religiösa föremål finnas bland artefakterna. I en tidig utgrävning skall man ha hittat en rektangulär sten med en mystisk inskription ett trettiotal meter under jorden. Inskriptionen tolkades och översattes såsom "Ten feet below are two million pounds buried" ("Tio fot ned äro två miljoner pund begravda"). Dock, A.T. Kempton översatte den såsom "Forty feet below, two million pounds lie buried" ("Fyrtio fot ned, ligga två miljoner pund begravda"). Denna översättning är inte verifierad, däremot, och originalstenen är numera försvunnen. (sv)
