Bere erradioa, bere tenperatura eta argitasunaren arabera kalkulatua, 0,39 unitate astronomiko edo 84 eguzki erradiokoa da, gutxi gora-behera Merkurio eta Eguzkiaren artean dagoen tartea. Alabaina, bere diametro angeluarraren neurketak ( kontutan hartuta), nabarmen txikiago den 63 eguzki erradioko balioa ematen du. Ni Virginis es una gigante roja de tipo espectral M1III, una de las pocas gigantes rojas visibles a simple vista, cuya temperatura superficial es de 3610 K. Considerando la radiación emitida en el infrarrojo, su luminosidad equivale a 1075 soles. Su radio, calculado en función de su temperatura y luminosidad, corresponde a 84 radios solares o 0,39 UA, aproximadamente la distancia de Mercurio al Sol. Sin embargo, la medida de su diámetro angular —teniendo en cuenta el —, conduce al valor, claramente inferior, de 63 radios solares. En este último caso su luminosidad sería menor, equivalente a 600 veces la luminosidad solar. No se sabe con certeza el estado evolutivo en el que se encuentra Ni Virginis. Si se considera la luminosidad más baja, su masa corresponde a 1,25 masas solares; en este caso, puede estar incrementando su brillo con un núcleo inerte de helio, disminuyendo en brillo mientras el helio se fusiona en carbono, o acrecentando su brillo con un núcleo de carbono. Considerando la luminosidad mayor, Ni Virginis es una estrella más masiva —1,7 masas solares—, incrementando su brillo con un núcleo inerte de carbono.Una pequeña variación en su brillo de 0,1 magnitudes sugiere la última opción, estando catalogada como una variable semirregular. - Nu Virginis (ν Vir, ν Virginis) est une étoile géante de la constellation zodiacale de la Vierge. Elle possède une magnitude apparente de 4,04 et elle est donc visible à l'œil nu. En raison de sa proximité avec l'écliptique, il lui arrive d'être occultée par la Lune. Elle est localisée approximativement à mi-chemin entre Denebola (β Leonis) et Zavijava (β Virginis). Les mesures de parallaxe effectuées à l'aide du satellite Hipparcos ont permis d'estimer que sa distance est d’environ ∼294 a.l. (∼90,1 pc) du Soleil, et elle s'éloigne de nous avec une vitesse radiale de +50,19 km/s. Nu Virginis est une géante rouge de type spectral M1 III, actuellement sur la branche asymptotique des géantes. C'est une étoile variable semi-régulière de type SRB qui varie de 0,0125 magnitude. Ces variations se font selon quatre périodes de 11,1, 12,3, 16,8, et 23,7 jours. L'étoile fait environ 1,6 fois la masse du Soleil, mais elle s'est étendue jusqu'à faire 54 fois son rayon, et elle brille désormais d'une luminosité équivalente à 631 soleils. It is a red-hued star with an apparent visual magnitude of 4.04 and can be seen with the naked eye. Because the star lies near the ecliptic it is subject to occultations by the Moon. Parallax measurements provide an estimated distance of around 294 light years from the Sun, and it is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +50 km/s. This object is an M-type red giant, currently on the asymptotic giant branch, with a stellar classification of M1 III. It is an SRB-type semiregular variable star with its brightness varying by 0.0125 in magnitude. These variations have four periods lasting 11.1, 12.3, 16.8, and 23.7 days. This star has about 1.6 times the mass of the sun, but it has expanded to 54 times the Sun's radius and shines 631 times as brightly as the Sun. The effective temperature of its outer atmosphere is 4,009 K. (en)

Были выделены четыре периода изменений блеска, равные 11,1, 12,3, 16,8 и 23,7 суток. Звезда массивнее Солнца всего в 1,6 раза, однако её диаметр в 54 раза больше солнечного, а светимость, ввиду значительно большей площади поверхности, в 631 раз больше солнечной светимости, несмотря на то, что эффективная температура поверхности ниже солнечной и составляет 4009 К.
