Nicholas B. Suntzeff (born November 22, 1952, San Francisco) is an American University Distinguished Professor and holds the Mitchell/Heep/Munnerlyn Chair of Observational Astronomy in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Texas A&M University where he is Director of the Astronomy Program. He is an observational astronomer specializing in cosmology, supernovae, stellar populations, and astronomical instrumentation. With Brian Schmidt he founded the High-z Supernova Search Team, which was honored with the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2011 to Schmidt and Adam Riess.

Suntzeff ging an die Redwood High School. Er erhielt den B.S. mit Auszeichnung in Mathematik von der Stanford University 1974 und 1980 den Ph.D. in Astronomie und Astrophysik von der University of California, Santa Cruz und dem Lick Observatory. Nach Postdoc-Aufenthalten an der University of Washington und den Observatorien der Carnegie Institution for Science in Mount Wilson und Las Campanas war er von 1986 bis 2006 in verschiedenen Funktionen am National Optical Astronomy Observatory tätig. Seit 2006 ist er Professor an der Texas A&M University und dort Vorsitzender im Fachbereich Astronomie des Department of Physics & Astronomy sowie seit 2013 University Distinguished Professor.
