- NBC Red Network war ein kommerzielles Radio-Network der National Broadcasting Company (nach 1942: NBC Radio Network) in den USA. Es wurde 1926 nebst dem NBC Blue Network gegründet. Sie waren die ersten beiden landesweiten Mediennetzwerke der Vereinigten Staaten. Hauptkonkurrenten waren in den Anfangsjahren das 1927 gegründete Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) und das 1934 gegründete (Mutual). 1943 wurde NBC aus kartellrechtlichen Gründen aufgefordert eines seiner Netzwerke abzugeben. Daraufhin verkaufte der Konzern sein NBC Blue Network, woraus daraufhin American Broadcasting Company (ABC) entstand. Nach der Aufteilung arbeitete NBC Red als NBC Radio Network weiter. 1987 verkaufte NBC das Netzwerk an Westwood One, welches den Namen NBC und einige Programminhalte bis 2014 beibehielt. - The National Broadcasting Company's NBC Radio Network (known as the NBC Red Network prior to 1942) was an American commercial radio network which was in operation from 1926 through 2004. Along with the NBC Blue Network it was one of the first two nationwide networks established in the United States. Its major competitors were the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS), founded in 1927, and the Mutual Broadcasting System, founded in 1934. In 1942, NBC was required to divest one of its national networks, so it sold NBC Blue, which was soon renamed the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). After this separation the Red Network continued as the NBC Radio Network. In 1987 NBC sold its remaining radio network operations to Westwood One, which continued using NBC identification for some of its programming until 2014. Beginning in 2016, NBC Radio News has been distributed in conjunction with iHeartMedia. (en)
