- Mestis je druhou nejvyšší hokejovou ligou ve Finsku. Její název je odvozen od slova "Mestaruussarja" což znamená "Mistrovská série". Liga byla založena v roce 2000 a nahradila ligu . Od roku 2000 byl Mestis nejvyšší finskou ligou, do které se postupně mohl propracovat kterýkoliv tým, protože nejelitnější finská liga SM-liiga byla uzavřena a tak do ní nemohly postoupit žádné týmy a taktéž z ní nemohl žádný tým sestoupit. Po sezóně 2004-05 byl do SM-liigy přijat tým KalPa a počínaje sezónou 2008-09 byla SM-liiga opět otevřena. (cs)
- Mestis ist die zweithöchste finnische Eishockeyliga. Sie wurde im Jahr 2000 gegründet und ersetzte die erste Division. Gleichzeitig wurde sie die höchste Liga, die durch reine spielerische Leistung erreicht werden konnte, da die SM-liiga „geschlossen“ wurde, was in Eishockeysprache heißt, dass es keinen Auf- und Abstieg mehr gibt. Dies bedeutet aber nicht, dass nicht mehr neue Mannschaften aufgenommen werden. Die Mannschaften der Mestis müssen erst besondere Standards erreichen, um in die SM-liiga versetzt zu werden. Erst in der Liga 2009/10 wurde sie wieder geöffnet. Der 14. der SM-lliga spielt in einer Best-of-7-Serie gegen den Meister der Mestis um Verbleib bzw. Aufstieg in die SM-liiga. - Mestis (from Finnish: Mestaruussarja, meaning 'Championship series') is the second-highest men's ice hockey league in Finland. The league was established by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association in 2000 to replace the I-divisioona ('First Division'). It had initially been the highest hockey league in Finland that could be reached through playing merits alone; the SM-liiga was closed (to teams being relegated or promoted) in 2000. After the 2004–05 season, KalPa was promoted to the SM-liiga, and the Liiga was re-opened in the 2008–09 season. Vaasan Sport was promoted in 2014–15, KooKoo was promoted in 2015–16, and Jukurit was promoted in 2016–17. Mestis, however, is an open league, with promotion and relegation between it and Suomi-sarja. However there will be no relegation during the 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (en)
