- Maurice Walsh (2 May 1879 – 18 February 1964) was an Irish novelist, now best known for his short story "The Quiet Man", later made into the Oscar-winning film The Quiet Man, directed by John Ford and starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. He was one of Ireland's best-selling authors in the 1930s. A new musical based on his novel, Castle Gillian, is currently in development by Victor Kazan (Book & Lyrics), Kevin Purcell (Music) and Mark Buys (Dance Music). (en)

Mais c'est le film, L'Homme tranquille (The Quiet Man, 1952) de John Ford, basé sur sa nouvelle éponyme, qui le fit plus tard connaître internationalement. Son œuvre se compose principalement de nouvelles et romans de mœurs, de terroir (Highlands, Kerry), aux personnages bien typés et où « l'esprit des lieux » occupe une place importante. Elle comporte aussi quelques romans historiques (dont Blackcock's Feather, duquel a été tiré en 1933 une version abrégée à l'usage des écoles en Irlande), deux romans policiers et une pièce de théâtre.
