- Luther (engl. Luther) ist ein 1962 veröffentlichtes Drama von John Osborne, das auf dem Leben von Martin Luther basiert. Das Stück ist beeinflusst durch Erik H. Eriksons Buch Der junge Mann Luther, das drei Jahre vorher im Jahre 1958 erschienen war. Luther wird somit im Stück auch eher kritisch betrachtet. (de)
- Luther is a 1961 play by John Osborne depicting the life of Martin Luther, one of the foremost instigators of the Protestant Reformation. Albert Finney created the role of Luther, which he performed with the English Stage Company at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, the Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt, Paris, the Holland Festival, the Royal Court Theatre, London, the Phoenix Theatre, London, and the St. James Theatre, New York. The original West End run at the Phoenix ended in March 1962, after 239 performances there, when Finney had to leave the cast to fulfill a contractual obligation with a film company. Luther won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1964. (en)

Sono protagonisti dell'opera anche numerosi altri personaggi realmente esistiti, come Johann Tetzel, Johann Eck, Leone X, Tommaso De Vio e Johann von Staupitz. Il dramma ottenne un certo successo e quando andò in scena a Broadway vinse il Tony Award alla migliore opera teatrale. Un nuovo allestimento dell'opera è andato in scena al Royal National Theatre di Londra nel 2001. L'opera è stata pubblicata nel 1964 in italiano da Giulio Einaudi Editore. (it)
