- Das Leibniz-Institut für Geschichte und Kultur des östlichen Europa (GWZO) ist ein interdisziplinäres, international ausgerichtetes Institut der Ost- und Ostmitteleuropaforschung mit Sitz in Leipzig. Der Tätigkeitsschwerpunkt liegt in der wissenschaftlichen Untersuchung der Geschichte und Kultur des Raumes zwischen Ostsee, Schwarzem Meer und Adria vom Frühmittelalter bis zur Gegenwart in vergleichender Perspektive. Das Institut will zu einem tieferen Verständnis aktueller politischer, wirtschaftlicher und gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen in den Staaten, Gesellschaften und Kulturen des östlichen Europa, insbesondere Ostmitteleuropas, beitragen. Its main focus lies on the scientific study of the history and culture of the region bounded by the Baltic Sea, Black Sea, and Adriatic Sea from the Early Middle Ages to the present in a comparative perspective.
