- Kichijōji (jap. 吉祥寺) ist ein Stadtviertel von Musashino, einer japanischen Stadt in der Präfektur Tokio. Kichijōji ist keine eigene Verwaltungseinheit, sondern der Name mehrerer Stadtteile von Musashino: Kita-chō (北町, dt. Stadtteil Nord), Higashi-chō (東町, dt. Stadtteil Ost), Minami- (南町, dt. Stadtteil Süd) und Hon-chō (本町, dt. Stadtteil Mitte). Der Name stammt vom Tempel Kichijō-ji, welcher dem Großfeuer von 1658, einem der großen vier Brände in der Edo-Periode, zum Opfer fiel. Obwohl der Tempel an anderer Stelle neu aufgebaut wurde, behielt die Siedlung ihren Namen. Im Jahr 1889 wurde Kichijōji mit drei anderen Dörfern zu Musashino zusammengefasst und 1893 dem Hauptstadtgebiet angegliedert. Im Ostteil liegt der Bahnhof Kichijōji, in dem die JR Chūō-Hauptlinie und Chūō-Sōbu-Linie und die Keiō Inokashira-Linie zusammentreffen. Kichijōji gilt als hippes Wohnviertel, da es mit dem Chūō-Express nur 15 Minuten von Shinjuku entfernt liegt und viele Künstler und Ausländer anzieht und mit dem Inokashira-Park ein Naherholungsgebiet hat. Um den Bahnhof herum liegt das Stadtzentrum mit der Sunroad-Passage, einigen Depāto, Cafés, Discount-Stores, guten Restaurants (neben Japanischer Küche mit u. a. Yakitori, Sushi, Fugu, hauptsächlich Chinesische, Französische und Italienische Küche).Südlich des Bahnhofs liegt der Inokashira-Park. It is centered on a compact but popular commercial area to the north and south of Kichijoji Station, with a full range of shops, restaurants, bars, and coffee houses. The area is a popular center for shopping and leisure in the Tokyo metropolitan area due in part to its close proximity to Inokashira Park and Inokashira Park Zoo. Kichijoji has been voted the number 1 place in Japan that Japanese would like to live every year since the 1990s according to polls by the magazine CNN GO. Kichijōji Station is served by the Chūō Line which runs to Tokyo Central Station in around 30 minutes, the Sobu Line, the Tozai Line and is also a terminus of the Keiō Inokashira Line, which takes passengers as far as Shibuya in around 20 minutes on the express service. - Kichijōji (吉祥寺?) è un quartiere della città di Musashino, conurbata in Tokyo (Giappone). La stazione ferroviaria omonima serve l'area tramite la linea Chūō. Kichijōji ha il suo cuore nella zona commerciale attraversata dalla Sun Road, una strada coperta che si estende verso nord dalla stazione. Pulita, ben organizzata e ricca di negozi, la zona ha una spiccata vocazione giovanile, artistica e controculturale. A sud della stazione di Kichijōji si trova il parco di Inokashira, sorgente del fiume Kanda. In primavera il parco diventa uno dei punti prediletti per l'hanami, la contemplazione della fugace fioritura dei ciliegi. A metà della Sun Road sorge un tempio buddhista con cimitero e nell'estremo nord della strada sorgono alcuni templi shintoisti. Attorno alla stazione sorgono ristoranti, bar, izakaya e altri locali che animano la vita notturna del quartiere. A est della stazione si trova probabilmente il più vasto quartiere a luci rosse sulla linea Chūō fra Tachikawa e Shinjuku, con love hotel e hostess bar. Kichijōji viene considerato, secondo alcuni sondaggi, uno dei migliori quartieri residenziali di Tokyo. Nel quartiere di Kichijōji è anche ambientato il celebre anime Great Teacher Onizuka, nonché un pezzo del libro Norwegian Wood.
