- Juan Gualberto González (* 12. Juli 1851 in Asunción; † 30. Juli 1912 ebenda) war ein paraguayischer Richter, Politiker und Staatspräsident (1890–1894). Nach dem Studium in Buenos Aires kehrte er nach Asunción zurück und gründete ein Lehrerseminar. 1872 wurde er Richter der ersten Instanz am Handelsgericht, 1877 Präsident der öffentlichen Kreditanstalt, 1881 Minister der Justiz, Kultur und Bildung und 1887 Abgeordneter. Am 25. November 1890 wurde er mit 39 Jahren zum Präsidenten gewählt. Unter seiner Regierung wurden der argentinische Handelskodex in Paraguay eingeführt und neue Siedlerkolonien für über 1700 europäische Einwanderer gegründet. Nachdem sich die Bankenkrise verschärft hatte, führte er die Immobiliensteuer ein. Er schuf das Amt des Bürgermeisters in Asunción, ließ die Eisenbahn bis zum Río Pirapó weiterbauen, gründete eine Landwirtschaftsakademie und ließ ein Krankenhaus errichten. Am 9. Juni 1894 wurde er durch einen Staatsstreich entmachtet und von Vizepräsident ersetzt. Er verstarb im Alter von 61 Jahren in seiner Heimatstadt. (de)

González partecipò alla guerra della Triplice Alleanza (1864-1870) nella Sanità Militare dell'esercito paraguaiano e, catturato dal nemico, dovette prestare servizio nell'esercito alleato. Nel febbraio 1869 tornò ad Asunción ed entrò nella loggia massonica Unión Paraguaya N° 30 (1871), raggiungendo i vertici della massoneria nel 1895. González si occupò poco di politica: partecipò alla fondazione del Club del Pueblo (1869), fu ministro della Giustizia, Culto e Istruzione pubblica (1881) e deputato (1887); nello stesso anno partecipò alla fondazione dell'Associazione Nazionale Repubblicana. Eletto presidente della Repubblica, González avviò una cauta politica di apertura nei confronti dell'opposizione liberale (nomina del liberale Benjamin Aceval al Ministero della Giustizia, Culto e Istruzione pubblica) ma nel 1891 dovette reprimere un'insurrezione liberale. Introdusse la tassazione diretta per il prelievo delle imposte. González fu deposto il 9 giugno 1894 dal Congresso Nazionale dopo un golpe guidato dal generale Juan Bautista Egusquiza (suo ex ministro della Guerra e Marina), e sostituito fino alla conclusione del mandato dal vicepresidente Marcos Morínigo.
